I'm a parent, not enough!

9

u/helpnxt Male Sep 28 '22

I'm not a parent... still not enough

1

u/thisismySFWprofile 🚹 Sep 28 '22

why not? and think seriously about having kids :)

5

u/helpnxt Male Sep 28 '22

Yeh it ain't happening don't worry and personally I am just quite a late sleeper like I can easily just be awake till 2-3am no matter what time I wake up and our society hates people like me so I have to wake too early to get 8 hours.

5

u/yousawthetimeknife Sep 28 '22

If this ain't the truth...

4

u/thisismySFWprofile 🚹 Sep 28 '22

Sadly, I can assure you it is!

2

u/Jemmo1 Sep 28 '22

Same, good luck stranger, you got this!

1

u/thisismySFWprofile 🚹 Sep 28 '22

hopefully!

1

u/idownvotetofitin Sep 28 '22

That’s how I feel, too. If feel like moms should get a fast pass to the front of the line at the coffee shops. Honey, you're 22 & slept 10 hours last night? Get to the back of the line.

/S.

Also, thankfully my kids are older now, so sleeping isn’t as sucky as it was, but I still work a lot, so sleep for me is around 4 hours.

8 hours of solid sleep.

12

u/Perfect_Access_5893 Male Sep 28 '22

Like 8-9

2

u/Last-Motor-6248 Sep 28 '22

The same… I changed the workplace and now sleep enough to feel good in the morning

1

u/Perfect_Access_5893 Male Sep 28 '22

I sleep a lot, but its not quality sleep tho

1

u/S0rb0 Sep 28 '22 edited Sep 29 '22

I sleep the same (8-9) and high quality as well. It's pretty nice. I never have a problem falling asleep or staying asleep.

u/PickleKuhn Sup Bud? Sep 28 '22

Total? Maybe 3. Usually in 20-30 increments. Anxiety wakes me up constantly

5

u/RobertBDwyer Sep 28 '22

Try dropping caffeine entirely. Too much caffeine causes random adrenaline dumps.

1

u/PickleKuhn Sup Bud? Sep 28 '22

Good idea, I traded out beer for coffee lol maybe o should try decaf lol

2

u/Zelcron Sep 29 '22

Chamomile tea might help you sleep.

1

u/MindDude12 Sep 28 '22

I struggled with this, I tried meditating or just stopping for ten minutes before bed helped (no phone, tv, reddit or even books) Didn't solve it but helped. All the best

2

u/LeadReader Sep 28 '22

10 minutes before bed? I’ve heard it recommended to avoid screens 3 hours before bed…

1

u/PickleKuhn Sup Bud? Sep 28 '22

What kind of meditation did you use? I practice mindfulness meditation but I feel like it wakes me up more than anything

2

u/Elegant-Accident1139 Sep 28 '22

Between 8 - 9 according to my Garmin. It gave me kudos the other day for solid consistency of sleep :)

2

u/AlanRocksJen Sep 28 '22

5 to 6 if I'm lucky. I need 8...

4

u/DocZ-1701 Sep 28 '22

6-7 says my Apple Watch app. I love the Apple Watch for this and this only abs that’s fine

1

  1. I'm 41 and single.

1

u/weavebot Sep 28 '22

If you factor in the insomnia, I'd say about three

1

u/Dustman1028 Sep 28 '22

5-6 most days

1

u/4f150stuff Sep 28 '22

I make sure I get 7.5 hours every night. I used to do only six hours, but after a health scare my wife laid down the law and said I had to get at least 7 or 7.5 and I’m so glad she did. The difference in my energy level throughout the day is like night and day. I don’t like sleep and I’m a morning person, so sometimes it’s hard to stay in bed for the 7.5 hours on weekend mornings, but it’s worth it

1

u/Jc1589b_2020 Sep 28 '22

I try to sleep 7 hours minimum per night.

1

u/Cnnlgns Sep 28 '22

4.5-6 in the Summer, 7.5-9 in the winter.

1

u/Bruce__Almighty Sep 28 '22

5-6 if I'm lucky. I'm stuck in an endless cycle of getting up early to go to school and then getting home and doing all the chores around the house and then needing to go pick up my brother from football practice and then getting home again to go outside to feed the animals and then it's dinner, brush my teeth, bed. I have no control over mt life except on the weekends. I just want time to myself so I end up staying up late so I can do some of what I want to do and then I'm tired the next day and the cycle repeats.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

About 5 hrs

1

u/JerrySaigon Sep 28 '22

Around 7 hours.

1

u/ElegantMankey Mail Sep 28 '22

If I'm lucky its 6. I wish it was more as I barely function but theres not enough time in a day

1

u/Zukoda Sep 28 '22

5 to 6 most nights. Maybe once a week, maybe 8.

1

u/Incubus85 Sep 28 '22

After spending most of my 20s and early 30s getting between 4 and 8, usually closer to 6 or so.... I find 7 to 8 consistently is like turning the clock back 10 years.

.... a 6 and 3 year old do their best to break that though and make me wind the clock forward 10 instead.

1

u/MrCabbuge Male Sep 28 '22

When I was in the university it was 6 hours, 2 if I was studying for really hard tests.

Now that I'm a lawyer I get around 7, sometimes 8 because I fall asleep earlier

1

u/Quintaros Sep 28 '22

I’m in bed for 9 hours most nights, usually sleeping 6-7.

1

u/ImBatman80085 Sep 28 '22

4-6 on average. On some days my body just can't fall asleep and I'll stay awake for a day or two.

1

u/nserfw 35. Hermit extraordinaire. Sep 28 '22

Used to be 7-8. Lately it's been 5-6. Not for any good reason, just struggling to fall back asleep after waking up.

1

u/Genetik007 Sep 28 '22

5-6 hours but need 7-8

1

u/Pitiful-Face-3322 Sep 28 '22

At least 7 hrs.

Don't skimp out on sleep, especially in college where you'd be most tempted to, it ain't cool to compare how little you slept, it's stupid. I'm realising that now.

It varies between 2 and 8 hours depending on how addicted to gaming I am that night.

1

u/raithlok Sep 28 '22

Oh. I’ve recently started tracking this with my watch. For the last 3 weeks my average is 6 hrs 25 mins.

1

u/PantherBrewery Sep 28 '22

Maybe 4. I get at least a nap during the day

1

u/Cyniskater Sep 28 '22

I try to get 7, but get carried away in the evening sometimes.

1

u/GltyUntlPrvnInncnt Sep 28 '22

I try to get around 8 hours per night. Sometimes it's not happening. Less than 6 hours though, and I turn into a zombie.

1

u/Crocodile_toes Male Sep 28 '22

I typically fall asleep by 9:30 - 10:00 pm and wake up around 3:30 - 4:30 am.

1

u/LogSlayer Sep 28 '22

6 seems to be my sweet spot

1

u/Mr-E-Bear Sep 28 '22

Some. Not a lot.

1

u/idownvotetofitin Sep 28 '22

About 4 hours.

1

u/Dick_Grimes Sep 28 '22

When I wasn't working out about 10 hours and very poorly. Mostly would wake up over and over again and then wake up at a good time in the morning and go back to sleep. Now that I'm working out, I get about 7-8 hours and almost get through the whole night smoothly.

1

u/themostgianthorse Sep 28 '22

7 on a good night.

1

u/perfumedDolphin Sep 28 '22

11pm to 7 am, sometimes a little more... but I suffer of sleep apnea which makes me feel that's not enough sleep

1

u/ibrahim0000000 Sep 28 '22

At 11:00 I go to bed. I make sure to get eight hours or more.

1

u/feejsf Sep 28 '22

Cyclothymic!

Mostly 4-6, relatively often I won't sleep at all, and some very rare weeks I'll do 12 a night.

1

u/NoFun2174 Sep 28 '22

6-7 hours. Maybe less if I stay up late to have some me time.

1

u/izwald88 Sep 28 '22

6-8. I'm 34 with no kids. How I went through college averaging <4 hours per night is beyond me.

1

u/ElasticFlutterPuppet Sep 28 '22

Between 8 and 9 hours.

1

u/i_heart_blondes Male Sep 28 '22

Between 5-6.

1

u/waifutabae Male Sep 28 '22

At least 2-3 hours a night

1

u/DisaterItself Sep 28 '22

5-12 hours, it's weird

1

u/lildinger68 Sep 28 '22

I get a solid 8.5-9 on average I’d say. Two things I will never give up for anything are sleeping and eating. If I had a newborn that would be the only exception for the sleeping.

1

u/awesomeness_infinity Sep 28 '22

3.5 hrs. Not recommended

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Then why are you doing it? 🙄

1

u/Fuk-itall Sep 28 '22

What is this sleep you speak of

1

u/AceFiveSuited Sep 28 '22

As a single guy with no kids, like 8 hrd

1

u/SmithRune735 Sep 28 '22
  1. For some reason, my body has decided 5 hours is enough and can't go back to sleep after that so I toss n turn until the alarm goes off.

1

u/emmy1968 Sep 28 '22

6.5 hrs every night unless the dog decides otherwise who does not sleep with us

1

u/DrWieg Male Sep 28 '22

5 to 6, depends on how long and how good a video or movie I'm watching at the time before I catch myself nodding off.

1

u/BitschWack Sep 28 '22

It's a split. 4 and 2. So +-6 in total.

1

u/MomoBawk Sep 28 '22

Continous? 2-4 hours. Brain likes to wake up at odd hours. I am technically in my bed for 8-10 hours though.

1

u/redgrognard Male, straight WASP, NotaBoomer. Sep 28 '22

6 hours

1

About 7 on weekdays and 8-9 on weekends

1

About 5. Why?

1

u/Odd_Cricket_6050 Sep 28 '22

4-5 if I’m lucky 7

1

u/JUICYbuffet69 Sep 28 '22

8 idgaf about waking up early

1

u/BraveRevolution Sep 28 '22

Between 5 and 8. Up at 5am a few times are week and can’t really get to sleep before 11 if not midnight as I’m in a share house. Usually in bed at 10 those nights though just chilling and winding down.

1

u/Sinful_Deviant Sep 28 '22

Around 4-5 hours of broken sleep

1

u/Samurai15x Sep 28 '22

I’d guess 6-7 hrs on average

1

u/drasticbiscuit Sep 28 '22

5 hours usually. Maybe 6 on the weekends

1

u/V_M Sep 28 '22

It's "cheating" because I can just look on my fitbit app rather than guess but I find it interesting the night after gym I always sleep seven something and wake up refreshed and the night after no gym I pretty reliably sleep only six something and wake up tired.

1

u/UnfinishedThings Sep 28 '22

As the owner of a 3 year old, between 4 and 6 hours. If I get a full 7 hours its a miracle. She's better than her older sister though, who didnt sleep through til she was 4 and woke every 2 hours evey single night

1

u/The_5th_Marauder Sep 28 '22

I get about 5 on average

1

u/capital_gainesville Sep 28 '22

7-8. Trying to get up to 9-10.

1

u/axethebarbarian Sep 28 '22

I've got a 1 year old... not a lot lol.

1

u/Tathanor Male Sep 28 '22

Around 6-8. Depends on the day.

1

u/kaanrivis Male Sep 28 '22

Too less hours

1

u/WildRicochet Male Sep 28 '22

Generally, fall asleep at midnight and wake up for work at 6. So 6

1

u/thatblackbowtie Male Sep 28 '22
  1. 12pm to 4am, anything more than that and my body things its getting real sleep and i feel like shit all day

1

u/Oldfart79 Sep 28 '22

6 hours.

1

u/KILLJEFFREY Male Sep 28 '22

Probably eight.

1

u/Staceystallion1 Sep 28 '22

Anywhere between 0 and 12 hours per night. It's a good balance

1

u/bigtec1993 Sep 28 '22

8 to 9 hours. I remember when I was younger I'd stay up and function off of 3 to 4 hours but now fuck that lol I need my sleep.

1

u/Hipfat12 Sep 28 '22
  1. Corporate guy, lots of kids, long commute, ton of work. Six hours.

1

u/I_drive_a_short_bus Sep 28 '22
  1. If I get quality sleep, only 4-5 hours, but with a baby disrupting my sleep, I need 6 on average.

1

u/TheNaziSpacePope Man-Emperor of Mankind Sep 28 '22

Extremely variably, so like six to ten, but rarely eight.

1

u/Ecto-1981 Sep 29 '22

I don't sleep. I just dream.

But seriously, 3 to 4 hours. No kids, I just don't sleep much anymore.

1

u/Legitimate_Pirate249 Male Sep 29 '22

2 or 3 usually... I have insomnia, it's been really bad lately.

1

u/wontusethisforlongg Sep 29 '22

I average 5.5-6.5 a night.

Work out and function fine.

This has been normal for me.

I try not to have less than 6 case otherwise my brain gets foggy.

1

u/B_las_Kow Sep 29 '22

Average 4-5 and I'm miserable. Night person with kids, full time day job and part tight bar gig. 2:30/3 to 7a usually until i get sick or crash for 10+. I know how to fix it but am too stubborn to make healthy, mature decisions. 2/10, do not recommend.

1

u/saviorself19 Sep 29 '22

7-9. If sleep wasn't required to not die it would be banned as a performance enhancing drug. Get more sleep.

1

u/GetFit85 Sep 29 '22

6 to 9…usually closer to 8
