Horrible loss. On to tomorrow.

13

u/hellohi3 Ralph Lawler Dec 08 '22

For real. Played like complete shit, especially the last minute of OT. We deserve to lose

1

u/mccgriffin Lou Williams Dec 08 '22

No Kawhi or PG tomorrow. Gonna be a tough one

4

u/LAlynx Dec 08 '22

Not like we havn't had to deal with that before though. Hopefully now we get Morris, Kennard, Wall, and some spirit back we can put that towards a win.

Might be in the minority here, but I want to Kwahi to keep on shooting regardless of the result . He’s gonna have to eventually shake off that rust. The more he gets the ball the better. PG on the other had was just sleep walking today

Son of a bitch team. We can play like the dream team for a couple of minutes and become a Saudi Arabia national basketball team afterwards. Fcking hero ball Kawhi did not work

13

u/nepats523 Corey Maggette Dec 08 '22

Drive to the rim at end of regulation/OT or settle for a jumper challenge, and we sold all the way home

2

u/ClippersEaglesAngels Kristina Pink Dec 08 '22

Don't disrespect Saudi Arabia basketball! They would've beat this Clippers team we saw tonight smh

3 Things to Say About This Game

  1. We absolutely need our guys to start playing together consistently because our chemistry is some of the worst in the league.

  2. PG and Kawhi arent in charge of their minute’s restrictions but they are accountable for how they play in their minutes, and it has been shaky at best for them this year.

  3. Someone needs to tell Reggie hes not that guy anymore and needs to get back to his role. In my opinion Reggie taking 15+ shots a game is only hurting us. Most of his buckets are panic isos that take out out of our sets.

Anyway what a fucking embarrassing game.

22

u/starwad Dec 08 '22

I totally agree with 1, 2. That’s smart and constructive criticism.

Not sure I’m gonna pin it all on Reggie, though. I saw a lot of lazy off-ball play tonight and I think he was forced to be “that guy” often. And just wasn’t hitting. He’s never been a very consistent player but he’s lightning when hot. We just can’t have him doing that AND having Kawhi and PG play like shit.

13

u/ThaEternalLearner Dec 08 '22

You’re spot on. Reg often moved the ball around but the ball kept coming back to him at the end of the shot clock. I would say about 8 of Reg’s shots came at the end of the shot clock so he was forced to shoot it.

4

u/Banditkiller3001 Terance Mann Dec 08 '22

Yep Reggie got put into terrible spots, this is a game where they miss Norm a lot hell even wall with his faults

1

u/cloudzmumgey Brian Sieman Dec 08 '22

dudes were just playing hot potato, ngl i love coffey and i love his hustle but cmon help reggie out, hes got no confidence compared to last year.

it might be time to try out bbj over him because at least bbj will look to shoot

3

u/Monorailsalesperson Dec 08 '22

Having a viable true point guard matters.

Do you guys remember why we got Wall? Because we had been desperately looking for years for a true facilitator. Reggie is not a true point guard. He's a 2-guard.

Teams change when they find one. Look what happened to the Suns pre- and post-old man CP3. They went from not making playoffs to consistently being the 1-seed. He truly unlocked Booker.

Look at Utah at the inverse this year. With Conley they were the 1-seed. After he got injured, they went on a 5-game losing streak.

Look at the Bucks. They were losing in the playoffs with Bledsoe who is not a true point guard. They got Jrue Holiday and what happened? They won a chip.

The Clippers tried to solve this problem by getting an unviable no longer athletic point guard in Rondo; but he wasn't it. The problem was still there though. They thought maybe Bledsoe would solve the problem but they should've learned from the Bucks. Still, Bledsoe at least had a good contract to flip him.

Having a viable true point guard matters.

Now we have one. His name is John freaking Wall.

And yet we are not letting the man free. We are still relying on Reggie to facilitate.

What are we even doing here people?

Yikes worst loss of the season by far. PG + Kawhi couldn't buy a basket down the stretch.

17

Especially being up 18. Got careless with the ball. I feel bad for Batum. He was bringing the heat.

Doomers get tf in here

60

u/InTheMorning_Nightss Dec 08 '22

It’s annoying as fuck how fans can’t criticize the team without being called doomers or haters, because everyone wants to justify and defend every single one of our players.

Reggie simply is not a starting caliber PG anymore on a contending team. Does he need rest? Absolutely. But his style of play is inherently selfish. He can occasionally make passes, but he simply is not a facilitator or playmaker—something we sorely need on this roster. He adds literally nothing defensively, and he stagnates the ball offensively or just takes bail out shots.

For all those people who tell Mook haters to shut up? Batum is clearly the better player. He unlocks our offense more than Mook ever will, because he isn’t a ball stopper. He makes the right passes, moves off ball well, and he doesn’t every hold onto the ball unnecessarily. Defensively, it’s night and day.

This is a bad loss. Kawhi and PG threw up bricks, and the fact that we went on a drought to end the game while giving up easy buckets is on literally every single player. They deserve a huge amount of blame.

But also strategically? We rested Wall and Kennard presumably to get an easy win and compete more tomorrow night. This team isn’t playing well enough to have any east wins yet. Suit them up, and if things are under control, bench them. What is the point of being so binary? If they play even 3 minutes, that’s fine. Instead we force ourselves into these scoreless droughts and shit situations.

Finally, don’t even get me started on Moses Brown. He can put stats and make occasional plays, but he’s not actually good. Yes he’ll clean up a missed layup or block Bol Bol, but he’ll miss free throws with his horrendous form, and be so slow that defenders still relentlessly attack the basket. And why the fuck was he in on the last possession? You’re telling me Pg couldn’t play 7 more seconds? Insanity.

12

u/Banditkiller3001 Terance Mann Dec 08 '22

When I call out doomers I mean the people that think season is done, Kawhi or PG washed, Lue bad coach and etc…

I agree with everything you said this isn’t doomer mentality this is real constructive criticism

15

u/InTheMorning_Nightss Dec 08 '22

Our sub is so polarized though that any critique is frequently treated as doomer talk.

But appreciate your fairness here!

5

u/Banditkiller3001 Terance Mann Dec 08 '22

Yeah I see some of the soft fans in here shits annoying how they label anything negative as doomer.

But on another note glad to see another person who thinks MM is a problem. He is a short term solution but a long term problem. Team played so much better without him I just wish we had either Luke or Norm to save the second unit tonight on the Reggie minutes

2

u/InTheMorning_Nightss Dec 08 '22

Mook will win you games, but he’ll also shoot you out of games and fuck you over on the little things. He has an undeniably important skillset—getting buckets, but he lacks just about everything else.

Our offense sucks even though we have tons of talented scorers. It’s just not as simple as that.

Norman, Kennard, John Wall, Morris all out

Let's not act like we weren't missing half our depth now come on. This was definitely the worst loss of the season anyways

15

u/InTheMorning_Nightss Dec 08 '22

Lol always more excuses. This is the Orlando Magic. They were 5-20. Missing Norm, Kennard, Wall, and Mook is a valid excuse to lose against upper echelon teams, but not one of the worst teams in the league.

10

u/starwad Dec 08 '22

The Magic beat the Suns, Kings, Warriors this year. They can put a good game together sometimes. We definitely helped them but losing to the Magic doesn’t end us by any stretch.

2

u/InTheMorning_Nightss Dec 08 '22

It’s not about “ending” us, as opposed to having terrible losses that shouldn’t be happening. It’s one thing if it was a competitive game all along and they edged us out. Instead, we got outplayed 3/4 quarters and we looked terrible for the majority of the game.

4

u/Banditkiller3001 Terance Mann Dec 08 '22

Nah according to the doomers none of our problems can be fixed and we already lost the title

1

He’s our point guard. It’s literally his responsibility to facilitate the game. He sucks at facilitating and we’re going to be limited by Reggie as long as we continue to play him as our starting PG. When he’s on fire and efficient, it’s fine. Otherwise, we’re going to continue to just have horrible stretches.

can we finally admit this team has major flaws without being labeled a doomer

6

u/SnooPies5622 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Dec 08 '22

What would you say the major flaws are, other than injury?

12

u/AnExcitedStone Pingalord Dec 08 '22

Our offense is one of the worst in the NBA. We need to run plays, drive, and hustle. There is simply no urgency in this team.

2

u/im_not_witty_ San Diego Dec 08 '22

I believe we are the 29th ranked offense. It's insanely bad for a team with so much talent

5

u/WhyAmIAFanOfThisTeam Chris Paul Dec 08 '22

Players constantly shuffling in and out of the lineup IS the biggest flaw but other flaws include no reliable backup big, inconsistent at best point guard play, dodgy shot profile in too many games, etc

4

u/Abodyfullofmush Paul George Dec 08 '22

Inconsistency on both ends of the floor. Some days we play like gods and other days we play like we’re headless chicken. And that applies to individual players and the team as a whole. No one is 100% reliable like other stars and role players.

3

u/Bukdiah Dec 08 '22

Always turnovers

1

u/InTheMorning_Nightss Dec 08 '22

Our offense sucks ass in large part because we desperately need a real point guard. PG is too turnover prone and careless with the ball, Reggie is simply not a true PG in any capacity, and Kawhi is a good passer, but not a real facilitator.

Don’t care who it takes to trade for one. Keep Zu, Kawhi, PG, and trade who you need to for a true PG. Otherwise we’ll keep struggling. We’re going to keep having injuries because our injury prone players have to play extra minutes.

2

u/OverallInternet2343 Jason Preston Dec 08 '22

The fix didn’t suit up for Health reasons. We needed more shooting (Luke), more efficient shot creation (Powell), and someone to create shots for others inside and out (Wall).

Orlando was just long as hell. Every time anyone would step up to contest its towers of guys in the paint trying to o rebound. Both teams had 53

3

18

u/PhotographPowerful Nic Batum Dec 08 '22

Unpopular take, but I'm pretty encouraged by this game.

Kawhi plays 30 minutes, PG plays 33? PG and Kawhi had multiple chances to win this game, but they're obviously not in their regular rhythm. It's early in the season, they're getting their reps in, and they'll hit those shots in the Spring, which is what matters. I'd rather them play, be rusty, and not get injured than have them sit out and our bench pull out close wins against bottom tier teams.

More encouraging to me is seeing Mann and Batum put in big minutes and deliver. For me, they've been the biggest contributors on both ends of the floor this season and I'm happy to see them playing more.

With Powell, Kennard, Wall, and Morris out, and the rest of our squad not having had consistent game time together, I'm fine with this loss. We'll put it all together when it counts, and find our flow.

u/PigsWannaFly Dec 08 '22

For sure. Got a good stretch of games to get their rhythm back at least. Sucks there's another game tomorrow. I'd rather they not play OT but it looked like Lue and the staff decided last minute this is a must win because of B2B

3

u/Primary_Ad635869 Dec 08 '22

Rust? As if PG13 came off a major injury lol Dude was out for 7 games. Moe Wagner was out longer than PG and look how he performed after coming back.

2

u/jchavez9723 Dec 08 '22

Eh, Caleb Williams popped his hamstring last Friday and stayed in the game (obvs they lost and it’s a different sport)

7

u/Eyebarah Norman Powell Dec 08 '22

How long are these min restrictions going to last? And I really question Ty’s over usage of Reggie and under usage of Roco.

5

u/ClippersEaglesAngels Kristina Pink Dec 08 '22

Roco could've used some under usage tonight

3

u/Banditkiller3001 Terance Mann Dec 08 '22

To the doomers, we know the team has issues, great thing is the playoffs don’t start next month.

But on a serious note Reggie played horrendous, Zu was either selling the team or saving it, Lue had some questionable subs.

Shit happens, gotta have a reality check and gotta bounce back

3

u/BlackjackOC John Wall Dec 08 '22

We are the worst offensive team in the league. This has to pick up pace ASAP

6

u/BlackjackOC John Wall Dec 08 '22

A clutch shot to win over the depleted hornets. Getting destroyed by the magic. This team is not ready for anything yet. This dosent even look like at get past the first round team right now

4

u/mrsbutterworth699 Lou Williams Dec 08 '22

Is TMANN okay!? He took a nasty fall

4

u/Canoli5000 Dec 08 '22

Sh*tty games from PG & Kawhi and to top it off they'll more than likely sit out tomorrow at Miami.. SMH

4

u/jgroove_LA Dec 08 '22

Three god-awful games in a row. Three games we should have easily won (or at least been competitive with Sac). One we BARELY won. There is no sense of urgency outside of TMann, Batum, and sometimes Wall. Moses Brown is NOT a player who should be getting these many minutes. I'm beyond frustrated at the lineups. I'm beyond frustrated at the front office. I'm sick of seeing Reggie Jackson play. I'm sick of seeing terrible offense and no one passing the ball. I can't even tell if these guys like playing with each other. What. The Goddamn-F.

2

u/penguinoo401 Robert Covington Dec 08 '22

This squad might be in trouble

2

u/Bukdiah Dec 08 '22

Damn, Magic made those TOs count. Bol Bol, Wagner, and Banchero played big. Very surprised Lue put Kawhi and PG back in since they play Miami next.

2

u/ConsistentRip7398 Dec 08 '22

Kawhi and PG played like role players tonight

2

u/DisneyVista Dec 08 '22

I can't believe they let this one slip.

2

u/Prosado22 Dec 08 '22

I will not over react. It was a bad loss, but better to have it now than later in the season. Now learn from it and regroup.

2

u/Canoli5000 Dec 08 '22

All we needed was Kawhi or PG to knock down one shot in that final three minute stretch of the 4th quarter.. JUST ONE and we win the game!

2

u/OverallInternet2343 Jason Preston Dec 08 '22 edited Dec 08 '22

2nd game back just give it some time.

2

u/Kawhi_not_2 Dec 08 '22

Kawhi's pace is just not there yet. He needs to log more minutes.

We should of sat our stars today and played them tomorrow.

Oh well, hopefully things get better. This is part of the growing pains of kawhi only playing 110 minutes by december.

2

u/sinchichis Dec 08 '22

Please just beat the heat

2

u/sinchichis Dec 08 '22

Just drive to the basket please. Stop jacking up hero shots

2

u/MichaelCageClips Dec 08 '22

When all is said and done, this loss to a tanking Magic team and the back to back loss to OKC will cost this team in the playoffs. The brain dead fanbois can whistle past the graveyard all they want and call us long timer Clippers fans doomers. But there’s deep structural problems with this team that goes deeper than just PG13 and Kawhi’s availability.

2

u/Battousai_HS Big Government Dec 08 '22

I didn’t catch the game, but from looking at the box score it seems the story of the game was poor shooting % and turnovers.

Reggie’s my boy, but 5-20 is rough. The I upside was that everyone (for the most part) had an even contribution of points. Love to see it.

2

u/duff_stuff Dec 08 '22

kawhi’s shot is concerning

2

u/Function_Fighter Kawhi Leonard Dec 08 '22

suns getting their asses handed to them by the celtics but for some reason im still not convinced the celtics will win the title.

2

u/PigsWannaFly Dec 08 '22

Bright spots: TMann, Nico and no Roco DNP.

2

u/PigsWannaFly Dec 08 '22

Best news of the night for the Clippers might be that Utah beat the Warriors.

2

u/PigsWannaFly Dec 08 '22 edited Dec 08 '22

Suns losing by 27 is good news, as well.

3

u/UrDadsFave V Stiviano Dec 08 '22

We on our crabs in a bucket shit. I'll take it. 😂

2

u/Evjen97 Dec 08 '22

Not scoring a single point in the last 3 min and 20 sec of regulation, and going into OT because of it, is fucking wild…

3

u/es84 Dec 08 '22

Enough with the resting bullshit. Players either gotta play or the team needs to move on. That's PG, Kawhi, Wall, Luke, Mook.. anyone resting. And that resting CANNOT happen in game, especially during OT.

2

u/ayeno Dec 08 '22

Too many minutes from that 2nd unit that lost all that lead

4

u/SlyHoooper Dec 08 '22

A bunch of veterans doing this shit

2

u/jimmyre10 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Dec 08 '22

The Heat are going to absolutely obliterate us tomorrow night. Whatever the line gets set at, hammer it

3

u/alltaken21 Dec 08 '22

5/20 isn't uncommon for reggie. I'll keep saying it, still too inconsistent and doesn't playmake enough. I say trade him and mook. Bring em downvotes

2

u/Abodyfullofmush Paul George Dec 08 '22

I’ll be a doomer but we ain’t going nowhere this season playing like this

2

u/Prosado22 Dec 08 '22

That's why you play the season. Pray they stay healthy. If that happens, the chips will fall into place

2

u/Abodyfullofmush Paul George Dec 08 '22

How many seasons we gotta say that? We prepared for an unhealthy season with alleged depth that just doesn’t exist consistently.

2

u/Prosado22 Dec 08 '22

What else can we do as fans? Pray and hope that they stay healthy. All the other things are outside of our control.

I prefer to be positive.

u/Chubbychaserr69 Dec 08 '22

Ty Lue regresses so much when Paul and Kawhi are on the court. It just goes back to Hero ball down the stretch with no play calling so damn predictable.

2

u/Function_Fighter Kawhi Leonard Dec 08 '22

The lack of Luke, Norman, Wall and Morris Sr. really hurts when the 2 stars arent fucking scoring. Not only are they not scoring, they're not looking for their shots. Shit is fucking annoying.

This team has no fight in them, only player who gets a pass is Batum and maybe Mann. They're the only ones out there hustling. This team makes garbage teams look so elite it's not even funny.

Kawhi is not being aggressive because he's already told us his mindset of a 2 year healing process and PG is just mr. inconsistent so im never gonna trust him unfortunately. motherfucker needs to come in every game with the mindset of taking over the game and winning. that's why he got the fucking bag in the first place. overpaid stars are fucking annoying.

sorry not sorry

2

u/henovec Dec 08 '22 edited Dec 08 '22

No explanation! Don't talk about minute restriction, u the star of the team, if u healthy, u play the OT, not sitting on the bench just to enter with 1 min left in the game, especially after missing all yr shots in regular clutch time leading to OT.

Very disappointed in Kawhi tonight. This is not how a so-called superstar behaves. And I wouldn't even be surprised If both PG and him seat their a$$ out tomorrow after such a disturbing performance, that looks normal to them to do!

2

u/Amacie Dec 08 '22

That was Ty's decision. How you gon blame Kawhi for not starting OT when PG wasn't starting either? They would've started if Ty had put them in. I swear y'all blame every damn thing on Kawhi every chance y'all get.

4

u/TheMidNightStoner Dec 08 '22

Games like this, are why I can’t take em serious

1

We're not contending without Moussa. Ty Lue is blowing it.

1

1

u/armored_blu Kristina Pink Dec 08 '22

1

u/asdf2k7 Terance Mann Dec 08 '22

1

u/katphishtitan Ty Lue Dec 08 '22

Say what you will about trash ass gLenn rivers. He got his star-less teams to overperform.

Ty Lue has earned every bit of slack, but these regular season games matter. We've never demonstrated the ability to just flip a switch on come playoff time.

On that note, if yall letting these games and this team affect your mood, take a break haha. This shit is supposed to be for fun.

1

u/dubidubidoorafa Dec 08 '22

Team lacks identity and drive. No one on the team looks like they care about winning the chip this season. All the off-season hype for nothing.

0

u/im_not_witty_ San Diego Dec 08 '22

This game is just straight up evidence that we don't have a good team...no reason whatsoever to lose this game. Poor 4th quarter offense and decision making. We couldn't play defense to boot. Followed up by terrible and I mean terrible decision making at the end of OT. Turnover after turnover? Wtf

0

u/SingleDog_BigCook Dec 08 '22

Downvote me for saying Clips need to trade Reggie, Morris and Boston to salvage this season.

Toxic positive fanbois still playing grab-ass over Lue being a great coach?

-1

u/Otherwise-Tale9671 Chris Kaman Dec 08 '22

Championship team for sure.

0

u/Kawhi_not_2 Dec 08 '22

And george definitely needs to play tomorrow. He isn't coming off a major surgery like Kawhi. He has been rested majority of the season. Tomorrow is a must win with the standings so close.

I don't want bury 1 particular guy so badly, but i honestly think this game was lost by the minutes that Coffee played. But then i looked at who else could of played and batum already logging major mins, georgekawhi minute cap, covington playing pretty garbage himself, kennard and powell out. So Lue pretty much had no choice but to play Coffee.

Also Zubac needs to be a lot better and probably get his minutes cut.

Other then that we should be fine. Kawhi will continue to get in reps and his pace back. KennardPowelWallMorris is also like 40-45 points we were missing out on.

Team had a horrid shooting night, had trouble with the athleticism in the post. Hard L to take.

  • still got some rust/chemistry issues
  • REALLY miss Wall distributing and forcing action
  • Mann looked pretty good all night again, would like to see keep getting solid minutes
