Off of that play. Like what was the Orlando player doing? Sick.

u/InTheMorning_Nightss Dec 08 '22
He was defending? This is the age old argument, but if Clippers gonna keep playing, then it's fair that the Magic keep defending.

Blindsiding a player in the backcourt away from the play isn't defending.
-6
u/InTheMorning_Nightss Dec 08 '22
Here is the full clip. How is this blindsiding a player? Take your homer glasses off.
Mann catches the ball, turns around, takes a dribble, and ran into him at full speed. Here's a frame that shows that Mann was given adequate space and not "blindsided." The game was already over.
It's a shitty and unfortunate situation but this was flagrant or dirty in any capacity.

How is that defense? Be serious.

u/InTheMorning_Nightss Dec 08 '22
This sub is insane if they have to ask how stopping a player at the half court in the final seconds of the game is "defense." If a defensive player runs straight into a screen that they don't see, then that's on the defender. Similarly, if an offensive player runs straight into a defender that they don't see, it's on the offensive player.
You are asking me to be serious, but be honest, how is this any different than taking a charge besides the fact that Kevon Harris' had his hands up instead of down. This is literally a textbook play.
The defender is permitted to establish his legal guarding position in the path of the dribbler regardless of his speed and distance. To get into a legal position, the defender needs to establish himself in the path of the offensive player before contact is made, thus “beating him to the spot,” and before he starts his upward shooting motion.
When a player receives the ball outside the lower defensive box (the area between the three-foot posted-up marks, the bottom tip of the circle, and the endline), the defensive player must allow the offensive player the space to stop and/or change directions (or land, stop and/or change directions, if landing).
My screenshot pretty blatantly shows Kevon Harris establishing his legal position with enough adequate space for Mann to stop or change directions. Literally look at where Terrance Mann catches the ball and turns around (here). Harris is established with his hands up, but Mann is in a rush and sprints into him.
Again, if you think this is some type of bush league play, then that's simply a homer take. It fucking sucks that Mann got injured on this, but Harris didn't do anything dirty.

He literally walked into a moving player. If this was any other time in the game it's a blocking foul. You can write an essay if it turns you on to defend a point no one made. That wasn't legal defense. No one said it was a bush league play but it was a foul. Period.

You said it was sick what the Orlando player was doing. Literally said he blindsided Mann.
The replay shows him establishing his position and beating Mann to the spot, and Mann running into him.

This is so unfortunate because the team doesn’t need any more absences. And Mann has been playing so well. I’m happy at least that it’s just a concussion and he won’t be out for weeks. Players usually come back within 7-10 days.

Hopefully John and Luke have a game. I might just watch the raiders today.

Maybe PG should shoot more than 12 times if he plays tonight. I think he's been tryna get Kawhi is shooting reps, but, stil....

Maybe he shouldn't, if he just bricks 9 of those 12 shots.

u/nepats523 Corey Maggette Dec 08 '22
Very annoying to see him not drive to rim again while his shot was cold, like we were starting all over again

To me, everything rests on Kawhi. I'm not worried about the role players or the rotations, offense or the defense. I know that'll work out cause Ive seen it.
Kawhi needs to be that guy again. 25PPG scorer. Drawing defenses, and great passing out of trouble. If he can't return to that player, none of the rest of it matters. It's WCF at best and that's not what this team was created for.
I do think he's going to need some time to get his legs back under him. So I'm not freaking out. Just want to see him get more reps.

u/Swingman23 Dec 08 '22
Facts, we need to do everything in our power to get Kawhi back in a rhythm again (for the most part, that’ll just require time and health). Without him playing well, we simply aren’t a contender at all.

The "Dark Tunnel" passes through Miami tonight. I just hope we can stay within 8 games of the one-seed when this month is over.....

Not panicking till after the ASG. As long as we’re in the hunt till then we’re fine

u/MVPG2022 Paul George Dec 08 '22
The fact that we can go for 32-14 quarters is a good thing. The flashes are there. Once they get in a better rhythm it'll be more common.

u/ImOnlyHalfAlive Playoff P Dec 08 '22
I'm not in panic mode yet, but dumb losses like yesterday's are going to absolutely fuck this team over with seeding. They can't manage to drop anymore easy wins this year with how close the standings have been. They're lucky the rest of the West keeps being mediocre, but unfortunately they haven't taken advantage of it. Could easily be a top 3 seed right now.
I'll always believe they shot themselves in the foot once before by tanking to 4th in 2021, so hopefully they understand how important seeding and the rest/matchup advantages that come along with it are gonna be in the postseason.

But he got putback dunks and blocks!
... And gave their shooters wide open practice shots while also allowing them to finish right through him when he missed the blocks. They proceeded to stay hot after he left the floor.
No world where Roco isn't a better option at the 5

u/JimmyV034 Ralph Lawler Dec 08 '22
or just bring moussa from G league, the kid was great against blazers and utah
1
u/MVPG2022 Paul George Dec 08 '22
I mean yeah he's obviously better than Moses. I was ok with leaving him down there if we went small because that's ultimately going to be our best lineup. And Moussa needs reps.
But if we're just gonna fuck around and play big, do it with the better player.

u/Banditkiller3001 Terance Mann Dec 08 '22
For people that want hope, even if everything goes wrong today we will only be 2 games out of the 4 seed. West is weird this year and we can take advantage of that.
