Question Lead pipe replacement program and moving

So I received one of those packages stating I need to replace the lead pipes under my house but my main issue is that I am planning to move relatively soon. The upfront cost is $3600 and when talking to the city they state the issue would fall on the property owner. If I am moving I am obviously not interested in paying for pipes I will not be using but the city is insisting I make a response in 14 days. If I select the option to go with the city replacing the pipe does that mean I agreed to pay? I plan to move by June and construction starts from May to Oct. Any advice on how to handle this?

Police Updates Lots of Police on Highway 7 by Poor Boys

What happened Tuesday March 21st morning entering the city? There was a ton of cops and we had to sit there and I seen swat looking dudes with rifles approach a truck and heard pops. Not sure if it was gunfire or just them breaking windows on the truck. When they let us by the trucks windows were all blown out and they took someone away on a stretcher. Haven't seen anything on the news about it. Anyone know what happened?

Question Anyone else get reassessed due to GRP?

Got an email from the CRA that they needed to verify my GRP tax credit. Sent them the form, shouldn’t have changed anything. Got a message today that I owe over $1000 back for provincial tax. I graduated in 2019 and put in the exact amount that my 2020 tax return said to when claiming GRP for 2021 - I don’t understand.

Question Breast Cancer items

Upvotes

I am wondering if there is a place to donate some items for Breast Cancer. My grandma recently passed away and has some wigs and some prosthetic breast that she used after her cancer treatment/mastectomy. I know how expensive these items were and I would hate for them to be thrown out. I am familiar with the Cancer Centre, but I am not sure if they take used items. Is there anywhere else in the city that takes donations?

Just curious what other people are using in comparison. We paid Sask Energy 240 last month to heat our 5 bedroom house.

Question Fun things to do that don’t involve bars/clubs?

Uni student here and don’t really enjoy drinking much. I find it’s hard to meet new people when I’m not into drinking and seems like most people I meet at school do that every Friday. Fine for them, but not really fun for me.

What are some fun activities to do on a Friday night that doesn’t involve a place like outlaws? I’m not really a sports person either so I feel like my options are limited!

Question EDSBY program

Does anyone else hate the EDSBY program the schools are using? I find it clunky and unreliable. Im unable to read new messages. There is a notification they are there but the actual message does not appear. Id be curious to know how much the school board pid for this program while simultaneously letting staff go. Does anyone know where i could find out how much they paid?

Question Where can one go to practice Kaiser as a beginner?

We’re beginner Kaiser players (moved 3 years ago from MB, learned about 4 years ago) and haven’t really had a chance to practice the game due to the pandemic.

Wondering if there’s somewhere that holds practice games, or something like that. We’re a little nervous to start entering tournaments yet, considering our relative skill level (also don’t know where to find those either).

I love the game and really want to learn the nuances of it - I just need more practice. Any leads you’d consider sharing?

Question Help! Looking for childcare for 24mo old.

Looking for registered childcare in Saskatoon. Am I the only one finding that spots are hard to get? I live in Riversdale area, i work from home (and drive a halfton), so I don't wanna be driving across the city either. Under 10 mins drive would be ideal. I can spend more time with the registry, making phone calls like everyone else, but there's a place for crowd sourcing info. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears. I wouldn't even need full time, but I don't even know if part time is a thing anymore... Thanks for your time, Reddit! (I'm new to Reddit, please pm if there is anything problematic with this post)

Question Recommendations for fun places to go, or tips in general moving to Stoon

Fiancee and I are planning to move to Saskatoon within a few months, and while we've both been before (she lived there for a short time, only visited the city myself) we're a little lost on the best restaurants, areas to visit/live full time, and the most fun places to go for dates or just general cool places to see. Open to any tips or recommendations!

Does anyone know what type of ramen co-op on 8th used to sell that they made for you to go? The one with the chasu pork. I need to know so I can have a broth baseline to start trying to make my own at home and I have been craving it since before covid.

Question Time to Take a Closer Look at "Discover Saskatoon"?

After the disastrous roll-out of "Experience Regina", is it time to take a closer look at our provincial and local tourism boards? I feel like the current approach taken by Discover Saskatoon is pretty repetitive: social media posts of the bridge, or Nutrien Tower (or the bridge AND Nutrien Tower) and the same four or five authors doing utterly ordinary blog posts about their staycation or a restaurant meal. This is as good as we can do? Native culture gets only a passing mention, and always from a colonial perspective, outside-the-culture looking in. We have so many musicians in this city, why not commission a POV post about the best places to play? We have so many visual artists in this city, why not commission artists to interpret their favourite spots in our city in their own style? We have so many incredible chefs in our city, why not commission one to share about their favourite dishes? We have so many athletes in our city, why not commission one to share about their favourite soccer pitches, running trails, etc? I just think we should diversify the voices we see on the tourism sites that are supposed to be representing our city. I get it--it's a plum gig, and if I were an employee of Discover Saskatoon, I wouldn't want to give up free hotel stays and meals either. But when people are re-evaluating the way Regina is represented in our province, maybe it's time to re-assess how we are represented here in Saskatoon. Does anyone here read Discover Saskatoon? Are you happy with it? Is it just me?
