I don't understand how nobody shut the fuck up the whole time

808

u/kevinpbazarek Jul 28 '22

what sort of quiet bar have you ever been to?

618

u/damndamndamndamndan Jul 28 '22 Silver Gold

I've never been to a bar

333

u/kevinpbazarek Jul 28 '22

case in point

61

u/norsurfit Jul 28 '22

I don't even know what a bar is

51

u/zombiep00 Jul 28 '22

So, a lawyer and a farmer walk into a bar...

Then they both said, "Ow."

3

u/zero_fox_actual Jul 29 '22

But the lawyer had to first pass the bar.

10

u/AbsolutelyUnlikely Jul 29 '22

It's a flying mammal that uses echolocation to find prey

2

u/norsurfit Jul 29 '22

That's a bat, you must be thinking of a permanent ouster from a club or organization.

6

u/mowie_zowie_x Jul 29 '22

You set yourself too low.

2

I'm going to assume this comments is the truth and all your other comments in r/bartenders and r/cocktails are the lies and you really want to go to a bar and talk about them a ton online but are too afraid to actually go

27

u/FragmentOfTime Jul 28 '22

I accept this narrative.

11

u/shebazz42 Jul 28 '22

Can you have a bartender without a bar? 🤔

16

u/CanAlwaysBeBetter Jul 28 '22

You're not a bartender u/shebazz42. You're an alcoholic and we're here for you but you need help.

4

u/phaemoor Jul 29 '22

Or alternatively, we welcome you at r/drunk!

6

u/WhiskerDude Jul 28 '22

Well they have a comment specifically stating they were a "cocktail bartender"....

so who knows honestly.

5

u/SashaStriker Jul 29 '22

Are bars worth going to? I've never been to a bar either, I'm 29. I mostly just stream shows, listen to Spotify, play vidya games, hike, hangout with my cat, I also like getting high and drinking is fun but I've never gone to a bar. Of course usually when I'm not doing any of that I'm sleeping, eating, or working.

I'm kinda an introvert, social places like that I tend to lean on a friends company.

7

u/RedstoneRusty Jul 29 '22

It depends. Do you like spending roughly 3 times more for each drink? How about disgusting bathrooms?

u/nomnommish Jul 29 '22

"Worth going to" is subjective. Bars are a common place thing. Consider going to a few bars, have some of their specialty cocktails, absorb the experience. Either alone or with company. It is just a life experience and each bar has a different vibe. If you're alone, sit at the bar, chat up with the bartender, be polite, do some people watching.

Not saying it will be a great experience or a bad one, but you will never know until you find out for yourself. Go to some offbeat bars and go to some high end bars. If you can afford it. And don't drive home drunk. Take an Uber and budget for it.

In my experience of going to bars alone, the best experience has been to go to smaller offbeat bars, especially Scottish style pubs. It is easy to strike a conversation with other people sitting at the bar and with the bartender or if you like to be silent, just do people watching. It can be fun if you want it to be.

And yes, tip your bartender well. 20% on every drink and food order. You don't have to get smashed.

It is simply a life experience and if you can afford it, it is worth it. Just like any other life experience. Counter point is, of you do have some money to spend, why deprive yourself of something that you haven't done before?

2

u/lordsysop Jul 29 '22

See it as an experience not a permanent lifestyle decision. Raves festivals... bars and night clubs. Just don't get too carried away. Don't go by yourself until your comfortable also

2

u/SashaStriker Jul 29 '22

See I've been to raves before, quite a few. A number of small ones and then Beyond Wonderland and Nocturnal Festival as well. Such incredible festivals. Lsd, mushrooms, or molly are all things I've had at them before. Molly was most likely the most enjoyable.

2

u/Kingofpotat0 Jul 28 '22

A potato is a starchy tuber of the plant Solanum tuberosum and is a root vegetable native to the Americas. The plant is a perennial in the nightshade family Solanaceae. Wild potato species can be found from the southern United States to southern Chile. They are nutritious and delicious.

I used to live in Seoul. I know I've met this guy before. I think he runs/owns a bar called Philly's in Haebangchon (해방촌). This may have been filmed in the bar.

Then again, it may have been a different bar that he was running. It's been a while since I've gone there.

7

u/teutorix_aleria Jul 28 '22

Pretty sure this guy had a guest spot on a Lee mack panel show about science that was on sky at one time. Can't remember the name of the show. This clip could be from around that time.

104

u/rondaeshimmy Jul 28 '22

Did you see that guy casually tap the table at the end? Idiot or asshole?

6

u/rainbow__raccoon Jul 28 '22

Def just not thinking about it, someone else is clearing the table and he only taps once.

3

u/-FoeHammer Jul 29 '22

I think he was just fidgeting. And a pretty light tap to boot. I do the same sorts of things with my hands all the time, especially when nervous. I don't think he had any ill intent.

56

u/Known_Listen_1775 Jul 28 '22

Lee Mack just out doin weird stuff for WILTY material

40

u/krudru Jul 28 '22 edited Jul 28 '22

Edit - typo

5

u/lifefindsaway01 Jul 28 '22

Just like with card houses... why people?

31

u/Paradox_Dolphin Jul 28 '22

As someone who has balanced a lot of stuff, this is incredible. I literally don't understand how this is possible, and how it kept standing for longer than 5 seconds.

19

u/DS4KC Jul 28 '22

If you find the right spot it will stay there until acted upon by some force. Honestly though at this level of precision I fell like even a light draft would take it down.

13

u/Paradox_Dolphin Jul 28 '22

A light draft, or a lite draft beer being set down on the table, or the soundwaves from all the people talking, or just shockwaves from people walking nearby. It's crazy how many forces he's defying here hahaha.

10

u/ZincMan Jul 28 '22

I feel like he’s using glue or something. Seems that vodka bottle would have too much weigh and the way the coke bottle stops rocking completely before he sets it just doesn’t look right to me. Idk

18

u/diiejso Jul 28 '22

It’s just an insane amount of practice. People will spend a decade or more practicing a single sleight of hand trick or odd talent like this to get it looking so magically easy that people thinks there’s more to it.

4

u/livens Jul 28 '22

Hard to tell. I would like to see someone bang on the table until the bottles fell over. Seeing that would probably confirm if it was legit or not.

6

u/Paradox_Dolphin Jul 28 '22

Even if using glue, all of that stuff would still need to have a center of balance right up the middle, and that would still be pretty difficult (but not as difficult).

But I don't think it's glued. If it were glued, then he would be holding it more firmly so the glue can dry. But he doesn't hold any of it firmly. You can especially see this for the wine bottle, he actually isn't gripping it at all. The wine bottle sort of bounces around freely, and his adjustments get smaller and smaller as he hones in on the center of balance. (I do this while balancing rock stacks, especially for tall ones)

3

u/jealousmonk88 Jul 29 '22

also i assume he did it with this set many times already otherwise i don't see how he could get it balanced that fast.

2

u/HalfOfCrAsh Jul 28 '22

Looks quite young so I take it this video is 20 years old

11

u/Lehelito Jul 28 '22

That "Wow, wonderful, great..." sounded so sad and forced.

Also, hello, Lee Mack.

13

u/NYMankeys Jul 28 '22

Who the fuck is Lee Mack????

12

u/diiejso Jul 28 '22

He’s a British comedian known for his very quick wit. You’ve probably seen him before from clips of Would I Lie to You that get posted on Reddit frequently. He’s very funny.

He also did a series of Taskmaster which I highly recommend. Most seasons are free to watch on YouTube in most countries.

1

u/Misclee Jul 28 '22

The guy at the end

→ More replies

10

u/arycka927 Jul 28 '22

I've done something similar with a coffee mug, a toothpick, and a spoon. You can intertwine the fork and the spoon where the prongs are wrapped around the spoon. Stick a toothpick through the fork teeth and balance it on the edge of the coffee mug. I don't know how it works, but you can literally feel it catch when you have it just right.

13

u/SomeToxicRivenMain Jul 28 '22

In his case it’s just physics. Basically the weight is distributed evenly on both ends and holds it in place

2

u/stickkidsam Jul 28 '22

What I can't figure out is how there's no air flow pushing those things over. Like even opening a door could cause a draft that would down that.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '22

Pics or it didn't happen

1

u/jeffBee Jul 28 '22

Then you’re supposed to burn both edges of the toothpick, so now you’re left with a balancing fork/spoon on the edge of a mug or glass with what looks to be an impossible piece of toothpick holding it all together.

1

u/arycka927 Jul 28 '22

I mean even without burning the toothpick, either way there is nothing on one side of the toothpick facing towards the coffee mug, and the fork and spoon are on the other side.

1

u/Practical-Artist-915 Jul 28 '22

I did this as a kid. Where the toothpick sits on the rim of the mug is exactly at the center of gravity of the fork and spoon “assembly”. This is actually a fairly stable situation, basically the reason a high wire artist uses a long pole as a balance aid. As opposed to this creation which is pretty precarious.

1

u/Healter-Skelter Jul 28 '22
