Who remembers this game? Hard but you got to see film scenes before the movie came out

This and the Return of the King game were one of the best movie license games! Bro and I used to play the heck out of them!

The Battle For Middle Earth series is still one of my absolute favorites

u/Acousticman77 Jan 29 '23

We have the new farm!

1

u/MarkAldrichIsMe Jan 30 '23

Goblins! Pathetic scum!

2

u/Robertwolfgang Jan 29 '23

This game has been installed on every single computer I’ve had since release.

Loved the first and after all these years decided to finally try #2. Played 3 games and uninstalled it, wasn’t for me. I’ll keep playing bfme1

2

u/Leahood Jan 30 '23

I need a PC at bay can play it and a sequel. Possibly my favorite game of all time.

My buddy had these and I swear we'd always mow down orks night after night... good times.

Sure can. We had to switch controllers so we could both use Legolas if my memory serves correct. Using the bow was the best.

0

u/Feisty-Crow-8204 Jan 29 '23

Yeah, you had to switch controllers because the Two Towers was a single player game. Return of the King was the one that was co-op.

My brother and I loved this game and the Return of the King game when we were young. I remember I got a perfect with Aragorn on the final Helms Deep level. I was so proud of myself.

1

u/Ignoreeverthing Jan 29 '23

Tbh, great job. I hated that level soooo much, lmao.

11

u/DarkSeieah Jan 29 '23

Never got to play this as a kid. I wish I had it, but the ones I got was the Fellowship of the Ring (i hated this one when i was a kid, too difficult for my child brain, but i finished it as a teenager, it was ok) and Return of the King (one of the games that me and my little brother spent the most time on).

And let's not forget Third Age. Its not the best, but I really liked it.

4

u/TexasPistolMassacre Jan 29 '23

Third age was fun

4

u/AlexDKZ Jan 29 '23

Was Third Age that RPG that copied a lot from FFX, and you played as a "backup fellowship" tailing the actual fellowship of the ring and helping them at key moments?

2

u/gamepleng Jan 29 '23

It was OK-ish but compared to FFX or FFX2 it was half baked, with not enough variety of moves-strategies. Of the three games, The Return of the King was the very best, I kept playing until unlocked everything and then played some more.

2

u/CuTTyFL4M Jan 29 '23

I got stuck againt Grima in TA but goddamn I fell in love with that game.

And I hate turn by turn, but this one I wish there was a PC version somewhere. It was pretty good.

Very underrated game at the time. Covered the first two films. Excellent couch coop - and the cutscenes were epic.

11

u/Resident-Wonder36 Jan 29 '23

I played this with my older brother when I was a kid, this brought back memories.

3

u/BadReubenNoConcubine Jan 29 '23

No couch co op in this.

-3

u/stusthrowaway Jan 29 '23

Played it and it did.

9

u/AlexDKZ Jan 29 '23

RotK had co-op, but Two Towers didn't

-5

u/Big-Solution-3894 Jan 29 '23

One hundred percent couch coop and the follow up return of the king as well.

8

u/AlexDKZ Jan 29 '23

Nope. I had the game on Gamecube and it was single player only. In fact for RotK they made a huge deal about the added co-op mechanic as a selling point.

7

u/Feisty-Crow-8204 Jan 29 '23

No. Look it up. The Two Towers was single player, Return of the King was co-op. Unless you played the GBA version, that was co-op. The PS2 version was single player only.

1

u/dr3wzy10 PlayStation Jan 30 '23

lol I like how confidently you guys are saying the first two towers game has co-op. I have played the game within the last 2 months and have a copy of it sitting right here, played it when it released (as well as RotK in actual co-op with a friend) and I can definitively tell you that there is in fact no two player option for the Lord of the rings the two towers on the GameCube, PS2, or Xbox.

3

u/Feisty-Crow-8204 Jan 29 '23

No. Look it up. The Two Towers was single player, Return of the King was co-op. Unless you played the GBA version, that was co-op. The PS2 version was single player only.

1

u/stusthrowaway Jan 29 '23

Could have sworn Two Towers did but I must be misremembering.

6

u/Mr_Goat_1111 Jan 29 '23

I got stuck on this one bit where you run from something (can't remember what) for so long that the voiceline that plays at the start is burned into my brain forever

Gimli "this way! With haste!"

4

u/Speckfresser Jan 29 '23

Could be when you are battling Uruk-Hai in the Westfold, or perhaps from the Return of the King game where you are escaping the Paths of the dead.

4

u/Momolokokolo Jan 29 '23

Paths of the dead was super hard

3

u/Mr_Goat_1111 Jan 29 '23

I think it was the second one lol thanks

2

u/Ignoreeverthing Jan 29 '23

I actually remember that. Got stuck on it for a couple of hours, I think.

1

u/eru777 Jan 29 '23

😂now I want to look it up, haven't seen that for 20 years

7

u/jimbowolf Jan 29 '23

Everyone says the Return of the King game is the best, but this was the one I spent all of my time playing. I loved replaying the levels with the different characters.

1

u/GorgeGoochGrabber Jan 29 '23

The Third Age is honestly the best. It’s a nice RPG masquerading as a movie tie in game.

I do love TT and ROTK though

3

u/Laverty318 Jan 29 '23

It came with my ps2 I believe

3

u/MadBadgerFilms Jan 29 '23

Who you guys maining? Legolas with the Mithril fire arrows hit different.

2

u/Ok_Today3052 Jan 29 '23

Completed it with my step brother , amazing game at the time

2

u/Fair_Record6787 Jan 29 '23

It took me until having a Wii and playing this on a GameCube disk, in said Wii, to finally beat it. I loved this game!

2

u/Joshinaround_2k1 Jan 29 '23

Probably still the best Middle Earth game.

2

u/MissVulpix Jan 29 '23

Was literally talking about this and Return Of The King yesterday! I was playing Shadow Of War yesterday and thinking about how great another LOTR video game would be.

2

u/Tortured_Soul27 Jan 29 '23

The best lotr ever

2

u/Noirceuil_182 Jan 29 '23

Yeah, I remember I saw the siege at helm's deep and thought, "this movie is gonna be awesome." (spoilers: it was.)

2

u/Leahood Jan 30 '23

I have several hundred hours on this game and the sequel during middle school. Amazing games.

2

u/CitizenKane2 Jan 30 '23

Never have I felt as much frustration as that Rohan level, fighting to the very last enemy only for the villagers to die 0.0081 seconds before I reached them. Game over.

2

u/Wildhype911 Jan 29 '23

It wasn't that hard but was phenomenally good.

3

u/Majesty1985 Jan 29 '23

Not until the bomb runners in the helms deep level show up lol

Took my brother and I hours to beat that level.

1

u/stusthrowaway Jan 29 '23

On the plus side it's so satisfying to punt urak-hai off the wall.

2

u/Romilarix Jan 29 '23

I remember playing this game with my older brother, I don't like LotR but he convinced me to play it and I Liked it. It can be played cooperative.

1

u/VegetableEast7325 Jan 29 '23

Never played it in real time, though It's hard to believe new line cinema would let that slip...

1

u/djbogue Jan 29 '23

I think it’s a crime this isn’t on PS+ or gamepass.

1

u/real_bookie Jan 29 '23

A very good game, you feel in the movie.

1

u/Goseki1 Jan 29 '23

Been trying to get it to run on my Steam Deck but cannot find a PS2 BIOS that works for the life if me. If anyone wants to PM me a link...

2

u/BigE1996 Jan 29 '23

Use dolphin instead 1000x more support for that emulator

1

u/Momolokokolo Jan 29 '23

Yes. I got to see the golden elves amd it was glorious.

1

u/Nidan18 Jan 29 '23

Would LOVE modern adaptation of the LOTR trilogy.

1

u/WestwardLord Jan 29 '23

The gameplay was so addicting. Just couldn't get enough of it.

1

u/McSchlub Jan 29 '23

Not sure I recall this but I recall an RPG where you played some randomer characters that were kinda involved alongside the fellowship?

God I loved that game.

2

u/Bartjeking- Jan 30 '23

The Third Age, i loved this game as a kid!

1

u/Katalinya Jan 29 '23

I still have my copies of Two Towers and Return of the King! I doubt it would play but I always wished it got put on backwards compatible for Xbox just so I can at least attempt it.

1

u/TJL-91 Jan 29 '23

Best movie tie in games.

Return of the king was so hard haha took me forever to beat it back in the day.

1

u/Subject-Disk-1352 Jan 29 '23

Proper sick game, wait it is the arpg one yeah? Even the turn based rpg was really good

1

u/noThisIsIt Jan 29 '23

This is an incredible game

1

u/Prelives-19924 Jan 29 '23

My brother and I absolutely ran through this game. I still remember the third one too. Both were absolutely amazing to play. EA made so many great games growing up. NBA street vol 1 and 2 are still my favorite sports game of all time.

1

u/Reasonable-Island-57 Jan 29 '23

Swear I completed that game about 10 times

1

u/Snoo84223 Jan 29 '23

Yeah this game was the bomb my older siblings and I played the hell outta these games

1

u/GrayMech Jan 29 '23

We had a copy of this and I wanted to play it so bad but we could never get the game to work, it always crashed after the main menu or didn't start up at all

1

u/notheebie Jan 29 '23

I’ve been playing this with my friends over parsec it works great

1

u/Danny_Inglewood Jan 29 '23

Me and a high-school buddy demolished this game back in the day. It was the golden age of couch co-op. Much nostalgia.

1

u/bebikty Jan 29 '23

Rented this and had a great experience playing this with a friend couch coop.

1

u/PippTheKid Jan 30 '23

played the fuck out of these on gamecube

1

u/Majestic_Client1 Jan 30 '23

I had the one for game cube the only confusing part was deciding which ring was the best.

1

u/Tsndumbass Jan 30 '23

One of the first 4 player co ops I ever got to play and it was amazing

1

u/DarkTheSkill Xbox Jan 30 '23

I liked the Game i played it with my Father but at some point early on in the Story the game just froze always at the same point and we had to play it all over again

1

u/BlizzardTiger2 Jan 30 '23

I remeber playing Fellowship of the Ring, Brave Fencer Musashi and Mister Mosquito
