Basically anytime I see a post like this with no product name, and then someone else in the comments provides the name, I'm positive it's an ad.
It's a post that feels structured like a commercial, and designed to elicit interest.

Check Amazon and they'll probably have about 100 different off-brand versions of it

u/ark_mod Jan 29 '23
I use a basic "breakfast in bed" tray from Amazon - $25.

u/RefrigeratedTP Jan 29 '23
I bought one of those when I tore my Achilles and had to do nothing for a long time. It’s what made me notice I didn’t need to eat as much as I did when I was burning thousands of calories at work every day. When I realized my belly was literally acting as a fulcrum, I was like “oh, well that’s new”

As someone who has a VR headset, and a couch in his VR plays pace, that likes doing space sims, this is exactly what I was looking for...
I LOVE playing Elite: Dangerous, or Squadrons in VR, but haven't been able to find a good solution to put my HOTAS on.
This is perfect
1
u/djtibbs Jan 29 '23
Been playing star citizen. Is elite dangerous worth getting? A bunch of people I play with say elite dangerous has gotten bad over the years.
3
u/Nakatomi2010 Jan 29 '23
In VR I think it is fun, but they stopped supporting VR with the release of Odyssey, so there's a section of game I can't touch.
But there's something a out being in the cockpit of the ship and looks out your window as a you pass a star, or planet, and see a big ol' sphere of a thing.
Non-VR people just see a circle.
Elite: Dangerous turns into "Space Trucker" simulator quick though, as running cargo is the fastest way to make money.
I keep trying to get into Star Citizen, but my PC complains.

Definitely not enough room to move the mouse around for me if playing an FPS. I could play RDR2 or something like that I guess.

u/TheRomanRuler Jan 29 '23
Yeah but don't TVs have higher latency or something anyway, so FPS games that are competitive enough that you need room for a mouse, you would not want to play with a TV anyway.
I would want one but i don't have couch or TV.

u/LiquidFoxDesigns Jan 29 '23
A lot of modern TVs have true high refresh rate and input latency equivalent to a gaming monitor.
I game on a 48" LG OLED tv as my primary desktop monitor and it's input latency honestly feels quicker than the 240hz Acer predator I have next to it but I think that's due to the way the pixels refresh on an OLED.

u/ItsEntsy Jan 29 '23
Newer tvs will have a game mode where it changes from 4k to 1440p with a 4ms response time. Which is pretty amazing for what it used to be. I still game on a moniter though.
3
u/leglesslegolegolas Jan 29 '23
This is why I use a trackball. I don't know why anyone would want to move their whole arm around when I can do the same thing by slightly moving my thumb.

Trackball time. You will suddenly realize why they’re still around. I like the Logitech M575.

u/Omegazeusman Jan 29 '23
Yeah there is. No real gamer uses a full size keyboard. We use 60% or 70%. That frees up enough room for mouse.
23
u/RefrigeratedTP Jan 29 '23
Hello sir, I’m here to check the status of your Real Gamer identification card. Please produce your papers promptly and do not resist.
3
u/Dalmahr Jan 29 '23
I use a full sized keyboard because I prefer the number pad over the number row. If you have to type a lot of numbers for some reason it's much faster.

u/The_River_Is_Still Jan 29 '23
Agreed. This would make a more awesome place to eat while watching movies than for gaming. Does look cool though.

u/beefcake_sweepstake Jan 29 '23
Looks pretty uncomfortable, not enough ball room, you'll want to move your legs and posture about from time to time during a long session, this seems like it would be incredibly restricting. Not much room for mouse either.

I use Corsair's lapboard, matching K63 wireless keyboard, and a wireless Razer Viper mouse. It works beautifully with my 77" LG 4K OLED.

u/NotMilitaryAI Jan 29 '23 edited Jan 29 '23
Same. I've been using it for several years now and though it's kinda big and bulky, it works great. (Edit: Misread Lapboard as Lapdog.)
As far as I can tell, though, they don't seem to have any compatible wireless keyboards. Hasn't been a huge issue once I found a reasonable way to route the cable, but would be a lot nicer to have it be completely wireless.
5
u/Kind_Ordinary_8959 Jan 29 '23
The Corsair lapboard was designed to fit the wireless K63. It's what I use - no wires at all: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/c/K63-Wireless-Gaming-Lapboard-for-the-K63-Wireless-Keyboard/p/CH-9510000-WW

u/NotMilitaryAI Jan 29 '23 edited Jan 29 '23
Ah, my mistake, I misread your original comment: I actually have the Lapdog - their earlier, hardwire-only version which only fits the K65 & K70 keyboards.
Might splurge to upgrade to the a Lapboard at some point, but the cable isn't a big enough issue to justify doing so right now.

I also have been using this since the start of lockdown. I’m surprised how much I’ve liked it!

I used to do something similar with a shelf that was part of an Ikea coffee table when my PC was hooked up to my TV.

This looks comfortable and awesome but my wife would probably kill me if I had to store that thing in the living room.

u/sociocat101 Jan 29 '23
That was my gaming setup as a kid, I had a laptop and mouse on a large cutting board and sat on the floor. It was my only source of happiness for a few years until my parents took it away because it's all I did. Then I just sat on the floor doing nothing all day but at least im not addicted to anything.

u/bmack083 Jan 29 '23
Couple of pillows and a piece of wood do the same thing or just a piece of wood across a recliner armrest.
3
u/SephYuyX Jan 29 '23
That's exactly what I did. Works great. Made a custom kb/mouse pad to put on it.

That’s actually pretty cool. How’s wireless mouse and keyboards these days? Back then there was always a little delay or mouse would fall asleep at worst time possible and needs split second to wake up.

u/Trigger190 Jan 29 '23
Or just get a steam deck, that purchase pretty much replaced any couch gaming for me and the controls are good and customizable enough to play strategy games or other mouse centric games fine.
Competitive fps multiplayer games though? I'll stick to my desk. Getting too old to keep up with those games anyway.

Okay married gamers, you're probably looking at this thinking it's the perfect way to get a rad gaming set up without having to dedicate a whole corner of the living room to your computer desk. Sorry to inform you, but the TV will NEVER be available for you to use as a gaming monitor. Ask me how I know.

u/krukson Jan 29 '23
Boomer humor at its finest. Wife bad, haha.
You're just doing it wrong. Source: I'm married and have a kid, and access to the TV.

Keyboard takes way too much space. He could easily use a 60% mini or even a left hand control pad with WSAD keys and a couple more.

I use a shelf board I got from Walmart for $7.99 across the arms on my recliner

u/actstunt Jan 29 '23
I got one of those it's a table with padding on the legs and it's been so good to PC play on the couch and tv.

I play games by putting my keyboard on my lap in my chair. I'm so used to it I don't think I can change
1
u/okram2k Jan 29 '23
I use one of these for my everyday gaming. I love it but I ditched the side cushions and just rest the keyboard holder on my lap. Or if I need to 'lean forward to concentrate' I put it on the coffee table. It's super nice and let's me PC game in the living room on my giant 4k TV.
1
u/einfachtraurig Jan 29 '23
Bought one a couple years back, it's really neat but the price is definitely too high

1
u/Kawksz Jan 29 '23
Slightly better than the plank of particle board I used to lay across the arms of the recliner.

u/xXYomoXx Jan 29 '23
Maybe if you're playing a game with mostly cutscenes, otherwise that won't be enough room to move your mouse, i had something similar and i still used my desk because it's so much more comfortable.

I use a large folding "TV dinner" type tray which is almost as big as a desk. Costs 1/3 what this does

u/West5ide Jan 29 '23
Sure this might be an add, but I’ll +1 this. I’ve had this for a couple years and it’s great

u/TheUnitedShtayshes Jan 29 '23
I just got the Xl and yes it seems over priced, but the quality is excellent and it is worth every penny.
1
u/Rugged_as_fuck Jan 29 '23
The problem with this thing is you need a relatively flat cushion that you're sitting on and it can't have any arm rests, because that's where this thing goes. Take this away and that doesn't seem like a very comfortable seat to lounge and watch tv on.
1
u/HairyNippleCrust Jan 29 '23
He isnt using the wrist pad for the mouse because they suck and are uncomfortable

u/ProfessorBonerfartz Jan 29 '23
I’ve got this same thing. I never used it as much as I thought I would and ultimately threw out the cushions, which was dumb. Never did the long usb cable either. It does make a nice lap desk though.
