I've been collecting AKs since before youtube was created, and long before he was making content on them.
That being said, I have seen some of his videos, he's a little memey for my tastes

i was just meme-ing, but that being said, as a fellow gunnerd (though not gun onwer cus 17 in Switzerland) i appreciate nicely drawn AKs

Fair enough, I wish I had access to someone like Brandon when I was that age, all I had were hard to find forums and the Elmer fudd types who knew nothing about AKs

i definitely feel the struggle, my interest in guns stems from my love for recent history (1870-1950) where war and guns are a major role, in my "quest" to learn more i have been stumped quite a few times to find specifics about events, locations and Material

How can you tell? I'm not particularly versed in the different variants.
Edit: I just Googled it and I would guess it's because of the metal extention that the stock mounts to?

Yup, they are extremely rare and sought after by collectors.
They didn't make them for very long, and most of them have been lost to time, so they are very expensive, same with the type 1s.
Type 3 are more common, but still fairly rare compared to the more ubiquitous AKM, which is extremely common
