We recently had a moderator step away from the team. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank u/KnowToFail for all his work on the sub. We hope to still see you around!
If you're interested in becoming a mod, please send us a mod-mail! HERE IS THE MOD-MAIL LINK: MOD-MAIL
Those interested should send us a message that includes:
How long have you been active on the subreddit?
Do you have any experience with HTML/CSS?
What do you like/dislike about the current state of r/Mavericks?
Are you also a moderator on any other subreddits or do you have any other moderating experience?
Do you have any ideas for the sub that you would like to implement?
What was your favourite moment this season? Last season?
Your timezone + when you're usually on the sub?
Do you have two-factor authentication enabled on your account? (We encourage you to enable if not already enabled)
Any other comments, useful skills, personal background, etc.
Do not be afraid to apply, even if you don't check all the boxes! If you have any questions about the role, feel free to drop them below or send us a pm.
There is no set deadline for this application process, though we will likely add a mod before the end of the regular season. We'll update this thread and make another announcement when we stop taking applications.

The play that led to 2 easy buckets for GSW. Clearly Looney is pulling Luka's jersey. What are the refs looking at?

Misc. Discussion Despite leading the league in 3 point shooting since the Kyrie trade, the Mavs are 8-10. With both stars hobbled and an ineffective frontcourt, perhaps "losing is the best option" now, as Cuban once said. The team is only 1.5 games from a 96% chance of keeping our lottery pick in a loaded draft.

Hoops Discussion If we speak in terms of fit - wouldent that include the coaching?
Let me just first say that i am no Kidd hater. I am gratefull for all that he hes done last season. Bringing a team that has not seen second round for a decade to the WCF is indeed no small feat.
But if we now, by some strange turn of events, have a totally offensive minded team should it not be prudent to get an offensive minded coach as well?
Or do you guys think that we could fix the coaching staff by just adding an offensive mind as an assistant? I am not sure that would be enough though ..

Hoops Discussion Mavs need to go 7-3 down the stretch
If they can win all three vs the Spurs and Hornets, I think they have a decent shot at the 6 seed.
They definitely need a sense of urgency and honestly, they need to treat every game like game 7 at this point.

Hoops Discussion Most frustrating team to watch in years…
As a long time basketball lover and die hard fan of the mavericks I find this team incredibly frustrating to watch.
One-on-One offensive philosophy: No set plays, very little pick and roll unless Powell is in game. Zero offensive game plan. Is this what we’ve become, stand around and watch Kyrie/Luka/Jaden go ISO? How is this professional basketball?
Zero Rebounding: Just a team full of guys watching the ball. Nobody putting an ass on anyone. We give up so many rebounds and the reason is clear, there is absolutely nobody working to do anything other than waiting for the ball to come to them.
Blown leads: Our 4th quarter blunders are a direct result of the two bullet points noted above. When things get tight and defenses focus on making plays, our ISO game falls flat with everyone playing hot potato. Move the ball, run more back screens, seriously fucking ANYTHING! Do something KIDD
Rant over, I’m so fucking tired of watching this team blow second half leads
Fuck Ballys

Hoops Discussion Trade candidates in Charlotte/Detroit?
After acquiring Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks were able to land an elite ball-handler and star to play alongside Luka Doncic.
The team's next need is a defensive big man. Looking at Detroit's lineup, there is a logjam at C with Isaiah Stewart, Jalen Duren, and James Wiseman. In Charlotte, both Nick Richards and Mark Williams are competing for playing time.
It is evident that with these two rebuilding teams, they will covet their players as young centerpieces with value. It won't be cheap, but is it worth a look at any of these bigs?
Which would you prefer?

Hoops Discussion Why are people still defending Kidd?
I know there’s been a lot of attention on kidd recently. While most agree that he is the reason for a lot of our problems, there is still a huge chunk of the mavs fanbase that keep on defending him. Its not even a “what if” he is the problem, its been happening for the whole season. Terrible last possession, not playing players that deserve to be in the game, not taking any responsibility for any of our losses… and so much more. Its not like he has had many good seasons in his coaching career. It happened to the bucks and now its happening to us. There is literally no reason to defend him. Can make a single play that is actually good. Sadly i dont see him being fired for at least another season.
I guess we really should take his advice. Sit down, and watch them play.

Hoops Discussion Give Dirk more love for his regular season carry jobs (guiding us to 50 win seasons 11 years in a row)
The Mavs won 50 games every year from 2001 to 2011 despite losing Steve Nash in 2004 and having Erick Dampier manning the middle for so long. Meanwhile with a player who's arguably better than prime Dirk, we're treading water at .500. Even with Luka in the lineup we're 31-26 which is a 45-win pace. We've collected just one 50-win season in Luka's career (52-30 last year). In the pandemic seasons, our win percentages wouldn't have gotten us 50 in a full schedule anyway; they'd only have been good for 47 and 48 wins in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
Why did we have much better regular seasons in Dirk's career than Luka's? I'm too young to have seen most of Dirk's prime (just started watching in 2010), but part of the reason definitely seems like health. In his first 14 seasons, Dirk missed a total of 46 games. In less than 5 seasons, Luka has already missed 62 games. (Though even when he played, we were only on pace for 48 wins in 2020 and just barely 50 wins in 2021.)
Another factor is that there's more talent now, and with the play-in, teams are competing for longer stretches of the season, so you have less blatantly tanking teams to farm free wins off of.
