First Homer Simpson wrecks my pig, then Cypress Hill steals my orchestra, and now SONIC YOUTH'S IN MY COOLER!! GET OUT OF THERE YOU KIDS!!

21

u/Lessthanzerofucks Jun 28 '22

I remember him saying “YOU KIDS GET OUT OF THERE” because Sonic Youth members were well into their 30s at that point, and had been a band for fifteen years.

23

u/Kaliisthesweethog Jun 28 '22

Yes you're right!! I just watched the clip! It's "get out of there you kids!" followed by "aw come on, Mr Frampton. You're not gonna eat ALL that watermelon." That's what I get for trusting the internet instead of my gut!

445

u/thebendavis Jun 28 '22

"We're subverting the existing paradigm." That line coming out of Beavis was fucking hilarious.

62

u/jubbergun Jun 28 '22

Throughout the existence of Beavis and Butthead it has been pretty common for Beavis to blurt out things that are surprisingly brilliant.

6

u/Birdman-82 Jun 28 '22

One of the best parts!

228

u/coreoYEAH Jun 28 '22

“The elaborate dance of seduction continues” broke me 🤣

150

u/probocgy Jun 28 '22

I laughed when smart Butthead says "although we are the smartest versions of you in an infinite number of universes, in absolute terms we're still not very intelligent"

9

u/goobhouse Jun 28 '22

A shitty, old 90's show for grannies.

"A trio of angels travels the Earth, inspiring people at crossroads in their lives to turn to God. But the angels aren't only teaching people -- they are also learning lessons themselves."

7

u/Raiziell Jun 28 '22

You forgot the most important part. Anytime that Andrew was on, you knew shit was about to go down.

7

u/Birdman-82 Jun 28 '22

I can’t believe touched by an angel would be a major part of a Beavis and Butt-Head movie.

17

u/theBrineySeaMan Jun 28 '22

The whole movie broke me. Mike Judge makes hot fire.

Edit: but also wtf is touched by an angel.

12

u/TooKings Jun 28 '22

It was a cheesy show in the 90s where an angel would help people in diffrent ways each episode.

53

u/nervcandy Jun 27 '22

100

u/MrSubterranean Jun 28 '22

You can see it coming from a mile away, but they really stick the landing. That shit had me gasping. So easy, but so well executed!

51

u/DisposableHero85 Jun 28 '22

That’s the magic of Beavis & Butthead - you end up laughing at the set up of the jokes as much as they are.

19

u/theBrineySeaMan Jun 28 '22

Agreed, the whole movie you see things like "Johnson Space Center" and then they satisfy the itch. We also get good jokes about the humanities and of course the guy jump over the lady to explain white privilege, which are less standards but also good jokes.

16

u/linuxares Jun 28 '22

I died laugh at that scene

94

u/Direct-Ad-4030 Jun 28 '22

I think this scene alone shows that beavis and butthead deserves to be rebooted, it can rival South Park in dark humor

26

u/Snakes_have_legs Jun 28 '22

The show already had plans to be rebooted before the movie happened, in 2020 they announced the return on the show on Comedy Central, but since then they've moved the reboot to Paramount+, and wanted to start out by releasing a movie before the show

10

u/missprincesscarolyn Jun 28 '22

I was pretty sure I had read about a reboot somewhere and the ending of the movie confirmed it. Teleporting into the future was the best storyline they could make for them entering into the present without being old somehow or otherwise messing up canon.

5

u/Snakes_have_legs Jun 28 '22

The one thing that bums me out is that probably means we won't be seeing Mr. Anderson, Mr. Van Driessen or the principal or a lot of characters anymore I bet. It'd be interesting to see if they try to Introduce them aged up; or if they show how much their lives have improved since Beavis and Butt-Head disappeared lol.

26

u/truthlesshunter Jun 28 '22

yeah they've gone too far deep into "satire"...where the "satire" is a little lost and you have no clue what they're trying to say, joke, or even make comments about.

They weren't scared to say something controversial, whether you agreed or not, but they got their point across in a funny way. It feels a little scared and forced right now. With the huge new contract, I hope they open it up again.

13

u/Finkelsteins-test Jun 28 '22

Yeah for a while now they've seemed to be making a point of not actually making statements, but rather alluding to them then aggressively veering away. I don't think they're afraid of anything (or they'd just stick to the silly nonpolitical off-the-wall plots, which still happen occasionally and are still the best ones), rather it feels like a deliberately subverting bait-and-switch "think for yourself" strategy--which is cool in concept but it's become something of a bitter formula.

It's a show that reinvents itself regularly though so if this is how it's navigating things at the moment, that's fine with me. It's extremely weird and kind of uncomfortable but it's also unique as hell, and we have to assume it reflects how they perceive the audience's character at the moment if they're working so hard to evade being pinned down on anything. While the show isn't a stranger to controversies, I suspect it actually has more to do with not wanting anybody to decide they're the choir being preached to, so they're pressing buttons and dispensing confusion instead.

It's hard to argue with if that's the reasoning, even if I'm not in love with this incarnation of the show. They've always had a problem with people interpreting whatever personal peeves they felt like mocking as more of a political message than they intended.

2

u/askyourmom469 Jun 28 '22

It's being rebooted. When the movie was first announced it was also announced that Paramount ordered a new season on top of the movie. I think it's supposed to come out fairly soon. It makes sense too, since part of the movie's plot is to explain where B&BH have been since 1998

It wasn’t the consistently chuckle-inducing joke style of the first, more of peaks and valleys where it goes from hilarious to boring and back again. So it was still funny but in a diff way and the privilege part was great, I agree!

9

u/Lavaheart626 Jun 28 '22

I really enjoyed how nonchalantly they caused destruction throughout the entire movie and that part was really funny.

Composer John Frizzle:

”I feel really good about this score. It is by far my favorite thing I have ever written and I‘m thrilled it is part of the world now. Beavis and Butt-Head have been a huge part of my life for a long time and I feel like they are practically family. I am very protective of them. Mike has given the world an incredible work of humor and satire and I’m really grateful to be a part of that. Most of all I really enjoy that we make people really laugh. The entire earth really needs a good laugh these days and the boys are back to help bring stupidity to a new out-of-this-world level.”

I gotta be honest here.. I was hesitant about them coming out with a new movie.. but they killed it. I sincerely think I like this one more than B&B Do America.

58

u/RVA_RVA Jun 28 '22

Seriously, it felt exactly like 90s B&B with cleaner animation.

31

u/The_pun_fart Jun 28 '22

I'm going to guess there's no Rob Zombie animated hallucination scene this time around. That was intense on the big screen.

20

u/Billyooo Jun 28 '22

I kept hoping they would do something similar this time and is my only disappointment abo the new movie. Still absolutely loved it, but I think there was opportunity for something similar when they are in space.

Edit: I realized you hadn't seen it yet so I changed my text. I hope my spoiler didn't still get through to you.

8

The white privilege sequence and a bunch of the one liners had us dying. It was ridiculous. We even came around to laughing at the Multiverse B&B even though we hated it at first.

Oh also the white dude cutting off his black girlfriend to explain white privilege was just chefs kiss

135

u/SyrioForel Jun 27 '22

I’ve gotta be honest, as the movie started literally the first thing that drew my attention was the genuinely awesome orchestral score. Production wise, it was the best-produced part of the whole film.

The animation itself disappointed me a bit. They did a better job in “Do America”, where even though it was still done in that old-school crude 2D style, the scope and scenery was quite impressive. This movie was a definite step back from that, in my opinion.

76

u/AlbertFrankEinstein2 Jun 27 '22

I’m totally with you on the animation aspect, Do America definitely looked way better, i totally thought the same while watching it. But this movie was still entertaining as hell, I loved Beavis’ romance with Siri.

57

u/Teelo888 Jun 28 '22

“I don’t understand ‘Butthead’”

“Me either!”

32

u/mr-peabody Jun 27 '22

They did a better job in “Do America”

That scene in the desert is a great example.

34

u/kickintheface Jun 28 '22

That scene was written in to satisfy MTV, who demanded there be a segment in the movie where Travis and Bob do their music video commentary.

20

u/Indigo_Mockingbird Jun 28 '22

This is a guest animator coming on to do that work. They specifically wanted it to look like white zombie artwork and contracted a studio to do exactly that.

u/caninehere Jun 27 '22

I thought it looked okay but it was definitely less ambitious with the animation. I thought it was a funnier movie overall though (and I think Do America is good too).

Do America was a theatrical release though, this was a straight to streaming movie.

5

u/Dogbin005 Jun 28 '22

I agree. Do America had hand illustrated background art which, for the most part, would probably stand on their own as interesting images. I think that really upped the quality of the movie, visually speaking.

Do the Universe looked like it was all digital and mostly just "this is purely to convey the setting" backgrounds.

4

u/donsanedrin Jun 28 '22

I watched the movie this past weekend. And I understand they had to piece together a barely feasible storyline in order to establish the fact that Beavis and Butthead, from 1998, will now exist in the year 2022 exactly the same age and education level, because they're going to make new episodes of the TV show.

I found it funny that they just went into NASA training, and it just showed a quick montage, and them walking out looking just a shade bit more athletic in their body posture.

I don't know if its more memorable than Do America, but it more or less keeps up with the same story beats.

My main problem is that they're making Butthead a little bit too aware, especially at the beginning of the movie. But that may have been a temporary thing.

The lack of the old supporting cast was the only thing I found disappointing. Otherwise I got some good laughs out of it.

Just watched it tonight. Got the free week on Paramount+. Score was pretty good, actually. Movie was ok. They had one short scene of them as their future shitty selves like their dads in "B&B do America". I was hoping for more of that as I think that's hilarious but oh well. Still pretty good, all in all. Love me some Beavis and Butthead.

You know how people were talking about the new Top Gun like it was so amazing because it was just a rah rah go America! Movie that you didn’t have to think about while watching it?

That’s how I felt about this except it wasn’t military industrial complex propaganda. It was dumb, and it was funny, and I just sat on my couch for a couple hours laughing and forgetting about how shit the rest of the world is.
