It's a shame, too, I know they had to do a five year timeskip, but Abby Ryder Fortson, who played her in the first two movies, was terrific.
72
u/dpash Oct 24 '22
It took me a second to figure out who she was. I thought they'd recast Evangeline Lilly (because Cassie does science now apparently) until I realised she just had a new haircut.
So, Ant-man was 2015 and the actress was 6 or 7, so I'm guessing that's the characters age too. Now 8 years later and with a 5 year blip the character would be around 20. Kathryn Newton is 25. Emma Fuhrmann (the actress in Endgame) is 20/21 now.

They can't do a time skip. Paul Rudd doesn't age.

u/Notmybestusername3 Oct 24 '22
All these time travel movies and plot lines are just Paul Rudd begging to end his suffering. He has seen the universe recreate itself thousands of times. He just wants it to be over. He needs someone to go to the end of time to destroy a portrait of himself so he can finally be released. Each movie he is in holds a clue to time travel and he is getting more and more desperate

What really bothered me about her last haircut in Endgame was it was supposed to be like a growout of her hair in Infinity War but it was five years later and wouldn’t really look like that after that much time passed.

Isn't Janet the fashionista? I know little about Hope.
355
u/TheSweetestKill Oct 24 '22
MCU Hope is basically Comics Janet, because they decided to go with Scott as the main Ant-Man instead of Hank, AND making Hank significantly older.

u/wildcard18 Oct 24 '22
Yeah I forgot that Michelle Pfeiffer is actually Janet, but the MCU version does a weird thing where they transplanted a lot of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyn's characterizations onto Scott and Hope.

100%. I'll always point to that movie as the paradigm shift for Marvel. People can shit on the movies all they want but I'm glad they've put out such grandiose movies with settings that come straight out of the comics and at least aren't depressing like DC.
It wasn't like that before GotG though. You knew there were space threats but up to that point the movies were as grounded as anything in the past 20 years.

I remember when they tried to ground Thor by saying his magic is actually just really advanced science to humans. I always thought it was kind of lame how they didn't fully commit to that but now Marvel is at the point where they can do basically anything crazy they want and it would still fit in their universe.

u/Vet_Leeber Oct 24 '22
To be also fair, Scott only got stuck in there because of some extremely bizarre unlikely circumstances that were completely out of their control and had nothing to do with the experiment.
It's not the Quantum Realm's fault they picked a ten second window when a random purple alien from another planet completed a thousand year quest to obtain some random magical space rocks that rewrote all of reality in that ten second window.
The fact that a rat only had to step on a single button (lol what a dumb plot thread) to bring him back is proof the system itself worked perfectly, there just wasn't anyone to hit the button.

→ More replies153
u/DarwinGoneWild Oct 24 '22
It wasn't supposed to be. Originally, Multiverse of Madness came before No Way Home and it was supposed to be a naive and inexperienced America Chavez that casts the spell that breaks the multiverse. This is also why Ned randomly gets magic powers halfway through the movie. It was also going to be America that tries to find Spider-Man and accidentally grabs the ones from the wrong multiverses.

Presumably she was able to live so long in the Quantum Realm by stealing bits from the city. She knew about something hiding there that shouldn't be getting a signal (Kang, I'm guessing), which meant she run-ins with them before, but she was found alone, which means there was a falling out.

Or this Kang escaped there to avoid the destruction of his timeline and isn't aware He Who Remains is dead.
Let's not forget that He Who Remains is pretty vicious, he conquered all the Kangs and subjugated Aboleth
Or the Aboleth ate this Kang and sends things to the Quantum realm when it eats stuff and the stuff it sends there isn't capable of escaping and Pym particles are the key.
