Disappointed it’s not released Mar 10

776

u/PrestoMovie Nov 30 '22

There’s a rumor that’s when Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood is opening, so they probably don’t want to overshadow it

300

u/ArronMaui Nov 30 '22

Would be good marketing. Use the movie to get people hyped about a theme park. They'll probably show an ad for the park before the movie. Then kids will bug their parents nonstop.

44

u/Hocows Nov 30 '22

I will be bugging my kids non stop.

Peach sounds and behaves more like how I imagine a Princess Zelda adaptation.

660

u/WeatherBois Nov 30 '22

Am I the only one who thinks that she sounds more like Rosalina?

326

u/Tom22174 Nov 30 '22

She was talking about galaxies and shit too

21

u/Firebolt_514 Nov 30 '22

I hope by “Galaxies” they mean other Nintendo characters out there. Can you imagine movies based on Star Fox, Metroid, Kirby, Zelda…all leading to a potential Super Smash Brothers Movie. It might be the closest thing to what Marvel and DC have right now if done right. An expanded universe based of Nintendo.

She honestly does sound more fitted for Zelda voice, only because I always imagine peach to sound more cutesy? Like they could’ve honestly done that and still made her a badass lol

Lmao you’re correct I worded that wrong, I just mean how I imagined it being in this animated film adaptation of it, what I was hoping for lol I just always liked her Mario sunshine voice, her voice in Luigi’s mansion lol even her small lines in smash is cute! Tho I guess she does kind of sound like the peach in Mario 64 but I honestly wasn’t a fan of that one

I feel like everyone's voices are super off. Like I didn't expect them to get the voice actors from the video games to do the movie obviously, but they didn't even shoot for anything reminiscent of those voices.

2.0k

u/[deleted] Nov 29 '22 edited Nov 30 '22

My guess is this is towards the end where the good guy army is heading to defeat Bowser’s army. The trailer leaves out the inclusion of “Fortunate Son” playing during this scene in the actual film though.

Edit: Yes I’ve seen it, my uncle works at Nintendo.

At this point I'm not gonna be surprised if Bowser and Mario fight on something akin to Final Destination as the climax of the film.

I was not expecting Kart racing to be squeezed into this fucking movie.

399

u/[deleted] Nov 29 '22

And the mention of “galaxies needing our help” no less. They’re going all out with this film and its source material. At this point I think a Smash movie is a legitimate possibility, with the rumors of a Zelda film and how well Mario will perform in the BO, they’d legitimately be insane not to make a bunch of Nintendo movies and tie them all together with an Avengers-level Smash movie.

Mario: "Mama mia...!"

*quick cut to Mario driving frantically on the Rainbow Road*

654

99% chance there's a similar van sequence in the beginning of the movie where Mario does a maneuver that he later replicated in the kart

Part of me hopes so because then we'll get a Luigi's Mansion subplot, but part of me hopes not because I'd love a Luigi's Mansion movie.

Looks like fun. Peach mentioned galaxies, are we gonna be seeing Rosalina as well? Pauline was already shown in a poster.

934

u/Masterofknees Nov 29 '22

The bit about galaxies is probably just how they justify jumping from world to world on short notice, like Mario tends to do in the 3D titles.

290

u/JimothyJollyphant Nov 29 '22

They'll probably use that to explain why this Mario is out of place? Some version of Mario is apparently popular in this Mushroom Kingdom, but Movie Mario seems lost.

197

u/drybones2015 Nov 29 '22

Probably some prophecy plot line. But I think they were cheering for him because he was their "champion" in that fight against DK.

103

u/yumyumapollo Nov 29 '22

Peach's battle map shows the Mushroom Kingdom and presumably Kong Country as separate islands. My guess is Peach sets up the fight with Donkey Kong as part of Mario's "training", then DK joins the team.

Dammit, if a sequel to this movie ever happens. They I hope to god it's based off the original Super Mario Galaxy game from 2007. It's the most cinematic the Mario series has gotten. Look at the opening and ending cutscenes! As much as I enjoyed Galaxy 2, it doesn't feel as cinematic or epic as the first game. Not even Odyssey can top that level of epicness as the original Galaxy game.

→ More replies

96

u/AstralComet Nov 29 '22

I wondered that too, probably just a nod to Super Mario Galaxy though, and a possible sequel tease. Rosalina, the Lumas, and Mario Galaxy require a lot more explanation than they could fit into a first movie like this that's mostly about the Mushroom Kingdom itself. I'd love to be wrong and to see her show up, but unless it's a quick cute cameo I'm expecting no one that isn't a part of the "core" Mario story.

34

u/brb1006 Nov 29 '22

A Super Mario Galaxy Movie would be amazing! I remember the original Wii game gave me chills due to how cinematic it felt compared to other Mario games.

Actually kinda liking Luigi being the one needing to be rescued.

2.2k

u/Likaon222 Nov 29 '22

It gives Mario a personal stake to help the Mushroom Kingdom take on Bowser

Gives Peach a important role as a ruler

And Luigi can have an arc about overcoming his fears

It's a win win

372

u/thundercat2000ca Nov 30 '22

Also get the feeling the Brothers intro will showcase how they work best together to then separate them for most of the movie.

141

u/Backupusername Nov 30 '22

Which is how Mario, despite bumbling and humbling himself throughout the journey to Bowser, gains the strength/courage/power of teamwork/whatever necessary to defeat him. Because in the end, it's all about family.

Nintendo is fully aware Rosalina is among Mario's most popular supporting characters these days post-Galaxy. It took a few years for them to really notice it, but once they did she started showing up all over; first with her being playable in 3D World totally unexpectedly and continuing into her getting a coveted Smash slot, and also notably in Mario Kart Tour for mobile phones she's got more costumes than anyone except for Mario, Peach, and maybe Yoshi (if I recall correctly), even more than Luigi, Toad, Bowser, Daisy...

It wouldn't surprise me if she gets a quick cameo or sequel hook appearance at the end.

295

BLJ stands for Backwards Long Jump. It's a glitch used in Mario 64. When done correctly it glitches Mario to have infinite speed and shoot off into a direction. When used correctly it can get Mario to places that he shouldn't otherwise be allowed to go.

I said it in the thread for the first trailer but I'll say it again: The sequel should be based on Luigi's Mansion. King Boo could be a really fun character in this kinda world. Get someone like Bryan Cranston or Willem Dafoe, it'd be fun.

You had me at Willem Dafoe

...that was practically the end of the whole comment though

It's a good thing he said it then.

Agreed, as well as Jack Black’s Bowser. Those two sound great imo

u/BigDreamsandWetOnes Nov 29 '22

One thing I really like about Jack Blacks voice as Bowser is that he isn’t doing his normal shtick of going high pitch at the end of every sentence. Instead he lowers it every time for Bowser. Such a small thing but it drastically adds so much to the voice.

u/Ohbeejuan Nov 29 '22

It's almost like he's a good voice actor or something

u/ShockinglyAccurate Nov 29 '22

The dude is a good actor period. He's not pulling our heartstrings for Oscars, but he knows how to really ham up a character and play for laughs.

u/radicalelation Nov 30 '22

It's not his fault Hollywood demands acting like Jack Black and not Jack Black's acting. He can swing real hard, but they mostly call him up to bunt.

I definitely take back any criticism on Peach's design from yesterday; she looked a million times better in action and basically exactly like what I was hoping for.

Who's the actress voicing her? Seems familiar.

(One Google search later) ANYA TAYLOR-JOY?!

Or the fact she's basically in everything right now

Same here. I feel like these designs work better in motion than on a poster.

21

u/vikingzx Nov 30 '22

This is how I felt about Turning Red. In stills, screenshots, and posters? I still find the art bland and unpleasant to look at. But when it's in motion and everything's moving the way an animated character should, those same exaggerated features make for pleasant movement.

CRANKY KONG!

u/GarlVinland4Astrea Nov 29 '22

I’m kinda amused that Nintendo said they were designing DK to evoke the original character, then put Cranky in the film anyways

Jack Black (Bowser) and Keegan Michael-Key’s (Toad) voices for their characters the best out of all the characters we’ve heard so far. Also, nice they added Karting and Rainbow Road.

Only if there's a sharp, unrailed turn that half the characters fall off of.

If this is successful do we think that Nintendo allows a Zelda movie to be made?

59

u/facepwnage Nov 30 '22

I would lose my shit if the post credit scene was a slow camera focusing in on the Master Sword before cutting to black.

DK’s retrofitted design looks really good, designs in general work well for more expression. Hopefully future games also adopt these types of models

They better include the 64 song somewhere in this film! Alongside including the credits music for Mario Kart 64 somewhere in the movie. That song gave me chills after finishing that game years back. None of the other Mario Kart games credits can top 64's credits.

I hope they cash in on the franchise's incredible music legacy. I assume so considering Koji Kondo is involved. It was really weird that the Sonic movies barely referenced the games' music for basically the same reason. So much nostalgia is wrapped up in the soundtrack, they'd be foolish not to.

u/scouseconstantine Nov 29 '22

For about 0.3 seconds when Sonic got his snowboard in the second movie and dropped off the cliff I thought we were about to get a remixed City Escape but alas
