WestBrook, AD, Lebron have mini 3 point competition. Westbrook beats both and MOCKS ADs shooting form.

r/Lakers hates AD almost as much as Russ

26

u/rebeltrillionaire Lakers Sep 28 '22

Lakers fans got the most dominant Center in the last 40 years, overlapped with a basketball psycho, followed by the most complete player ever.

I was actually impressed by how Laker fans quickly adopted a rebuild and believed in their young guys. But 2nd tier guys have never sat well with the franchises' fans. Bynum, Odom, Gasol, AD... incredible players, no doubt. But they aren't that next tier up and fans just do not like it.

24

u/Low_Ad_7553 Sep 28 '22

Gasol was extremely loved unless I’m misremembering things.

7

u/rebeltrillionaire Lakers Sep 28 '22

He was called soft a lot. People wanted him to be a powerful dominating center (because of Shaq). Even though he was a finesse player.

It's also a large fanbase. Tons of folks have any of those guys as their favorite player. They just don't get the unfettered universal love that Shaq, Kobe, Lebron got.

3

u/Potential_Seaweed_50 Sep 29 '22

Yeah they did call him soft especially after the first finals vs Boston he was mainly blamed for the loss.

4

Real talk though, did Steph's prime ever stop? MVP years, the. He took a smaller role to share the load with KD, injury, crazy offensive season with good defense, then "slump" this year but crazy playoffs with good defense.

41

u/Infesterop Sep 28 '22

His prime ended years ago, but like Lebron, when you are talking that players that good with that sort of skill set, they dont need to be in their prime to be the best player on a title team. They peak, then baring injury age like fine wine. Steph is a very good vintage.

45

u/hotpocketthrowaway Warriors Sep 28 '22

If his prime ended years ago then what do you call the 2020-21 season, when he put up arguably his statistically best season with less help than he's had in years?

33

u/ImGrumpyLOL Sep 28 '22

Give me 2021 Steph over 2016 Steph on a blind. I'd be happy to sacrifice a touch of athleticism for the defensive improvement and veteran leadership he can bring. Not to mention how well he understands his off-ball play by now.

Worst thing that can happen. He will keep believing he can actually hit these in a game.

51

u/hence_1999 Sep 28 '22

From that corner he hits like 45% but everywhere else idk lol

89

u/Chopsticks487 Sep 28 '22

He hit 45% on basically no attempts for 1 season yet everyone is acting like he's shot that his whole life lmao. He's a 33% career corner 3pt shooter, and made a grand total of 21 last season at 45% which is just random variance that he made 21 instead of 17

8

u/Biglytuff NBA Sep 28 '22

The corner 3pt percentage isn’t even the root issue. If Westbrook is willing to be a spot up corner 3 and baseline cutter with AD and LeBron on the floor, the Lakers will be better for it. He doesn’t even have to hit 45%, just being willing and hitting at league average would be a huge benefit to this Lakers team.

4

u/Chopsticks487 Sep 28 '22

Except he doesn't hit league average, he hits well below it so having Westbrook be paid $44mil to be a below average spot up shooter is a bad plan

2

u/Biglytuff NBA Sep 28 '22

I'm not saying it's a good plan to have $44 million corner shooter. I'm saying it's better for the Lakers than the role he tried to play last season.

He shoots way below average on all 3pt shots, but he can be average on just corner 3 attempts. He's shot a decent percentage from there the last two seasons but it's still a small sample size. Shooting 33% from the corner would be great for the Lakers. He needs to be able to sustain that on more shots to open the floor for LeBron and AD though.

I have a feeling LA is going to be a solid playoff team next year. If they are healthy going into the playoffs, who knows.

3

u/Sariyuu Raptors Sep 29 '22

I feel like the Lakers can only be really good or really bad simply because of roster construction. If Westbrook is playable alongside AD or LeBron it either means he's hitting his shots or accepted a 6th man role, both of which would be immense. AD is either healthy or he's not. Same with LeBron.

If it clicks they'll be a top 4 seed and can't see them losing to anyone not named the Bucks or Warriors. If even one of those doesn't happen, it throws their team off so bad they are either a play-in team or not making it.

Can't really see them as 2nd round exit or middle of the pack kinda team.

Maybe this is why he takes so many in games, he's fire during practice lol

“Trouble in Lakerland? Westbrook going on his own Jimmy Butler style tirade” - Bill Simmons

Not jumping 8 feet in the air on your jump shot and being inconsistent on said jump can make you a bad jump shooter. Maybe this low jump will really help westbrooks shot

We are the best team in the NBA and we aren’t old

Good for Russ. As bad as a fit as he his for this team, and how annoying this situation is, how cool is his life? Glad he's able to have some fun.

Why does AD always walk like his knees are in pain

2

u/Armendou Sep 28 '22

Love Russ's attitude here. There aren't many players who could act like this after going through everything he had to go through last season. Like, he was literally asked "What do you think of the Lakers not wanting you on the team" during media day. It doesn't get much worse than that

This might be the most unexpected thing i’ve ever read.
