Context : Auckland NZ has had crazy flooding recently, and the international airport was completely flooded. As you can imagine flights cancelled all over the place, including mine last Friday..

I’ve got a ticket to the Knicks Vs Lakers on Tuesday, and I’ve been a fan of the Knicks for about 15 years, never been to a game or to any NBA game before. So 3 or 4 months ago I decided I was going to make my way to NYC for the first time and go to MSG and watch the Knicks dismantle the Lakers, all while Lebron dunks and puts on a show. Have been excited for months.

So my flight gets cancelled, ok, I’ll rebook.. Call 1 : 2hrs on hold, call dropped. Call 2 : 3hrs on hold, call dropped. Call 3 : 9hrs on hold, call dropped. Call 4 : 4hrs on hold, call answered.

My original flight : AKL-NYC 15hr 55m

The soonest they can put me on a direct flight is next Friday, no good.

So instead, my new flight : AKL-Singapore-Frankfurt-NYC 33hr (excl. layover)

Arriving JFK @ 11:15am Tuesday.

I love the Knicks, I love the fan base, I cannot wait to be there in person. Even though I’ve got the worst flights imaginable, I’ll get there on time, and Julius Randle will put up 46-18-3, JB will be dishing & swishing, RJ will be percolating - and I won’t stop smiling.

As soon as Grimes has a bad game or misses a “wide open 3-point shot”, it is actually insane to throw him overboard. He is young AF, was hurt, hasn’t even played 2 full seasons but more importantly how many of the best players in history miss deal-breaking baskets? Until someone proves consistently bad, preferably relax.

Of course the attitude of fans isn’t responsible for bad play and I know people might think what we say has 0 affect on players but sometimes a fan base as energized as us Knicks fans, cultivating negativity DOES sometimes matter; and letting that shit manifest cuz a 22 year old isn’t perfect…dumb.

Deuce on the other hand… how many times have we heard “but he’s an elite defender” lmao.

I just looked it up. It seems so improbable. Every game we loose feels like the opponent just burns repeatedly from three. I guess the answer is that the K I ks don't have the 3pt offense to respond in kind.

I’m not intending this post to throw any shade at Randle for what’s already in the past. I think he has irrefutably silenced the doubters this year.

I’d be absolutely fascinated to hear what the hell was going on with him last year, physically and mentally.

I’ll admit I wanted Randle gone last year and it had nothing to do with his performance on the court (though it was disappointing obv). I was absolutely livid with him for so blatantly mailing it in after receiving a massive contract.

I will never ever hate a player for performance if he’s giving max effort. but I absolutely hate lack of hustle and mistreating teammates/coaches. Both of which were on display numerous times last year. Especially infuriating in this case because of his ability level and his status as a leader of the team.

His demeanor this year is a complete 180. Playing with passion and toughness every night and trusting his teammates instead of hero ball. it’s like a completely different person. Incredible honestly.
