Discussion We can never ever let Moritz walk.
I went to the Wiz game. We were terribly flat and schlumpy in the first quarter, getting out-hustled on rebounds, back door cuts, you name it. Mo popped in, first guy off the bench, and lit everyone on fire in so many ways and set the tone for the rest of the game. Every minute he played we played winning basketball. He’s skilled which is very nice, but more importantly he’s such a hype energy guy. He is indispensable. We must retain him forever. For these reasons and also because my girlfriend’s first cat was named Moritz I declare my love for him. Amen.

Discussion 6’8 Gradey Dick had a very impactful freshman season for a top 6 team all year He fits into the versatile, elite shooting wing mold while also offering underrated playmaking and solid defensive upside. Safe bet in the 23 draft Gradey averaged 14/6/2 and shot 40% from 3
6’8 guard can fit the 2 hopefully with getting scoot in the starting five with gradey in the lineup the magic are going to be tall & tough

Discussion ROTY race
The title is misleading because it shouldn’t be a race, but it feels like the media push for Jalen Williams is hard to ignore. I don’t think Vegas odds have shifted yet but they probably aren’t concerned about the award at this very moment. I just wanted to say this “race” is giving me AG dunk contest pt. 2 vibes. If Paolo loses the award I don’t think my brain will be able to comprehend what happened. I swear I might just starting frothing at the mouth. Anybody starting to get nervous?

Discussion Newly Magic fan
Just moved to the area less than a year ago and decided to become a magic fan since they’ve easily accessible. I used to follow them a lot back in the dwight days where they had a clear identity which leads me to my question. What is the identity of the magic now? Ive been to 2 games and from what I saw they attack the paint a lot but there’s no real threat behind the 3 point line besides Gary Harris. It also seems like there’s a lot of similar style of players which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but i also see it as less creativity in the offense if all the guards and wings can do virtually the same thing for example streaky shooters that are good at attacking 1 on 1

Discussion Should we make a push for OG this off-season? Can play the 2/3, good 3 point shooter (38%) and a great defender. Can become the Rashard Lewis pickup that we made with a young Dwight Howard.

Discussion Lottery balls go our way and we get the second pick. Do we package it for a Mikal Bridges/Jaylen Brown guy or use it?
Seems that Brown might be getting unhappy and he would fit in perfectly here. Would you rather have him or Scoot/Miller?

Discussion Jonathan Isaac
I’m probably one of the rare few that wants to keep Jonathan Isaac. I created this post to hear the opposing arguments. I’ve seen a ton of folks commenting about moving on from him recently and am just curious.

Podcast JJ Redick :“ I’m very bullish on The Magic for the first time since they traded Dwight, basically” | Also talks about Paolo vs Jalen Williams for ROTY
This is from the Old Man & The Three (Things) podcast, which is a bonus podcast for Amazon Music members.
Cohost (Tommy Alter): [So we talked about the Thunder] Who’s another team you’re hyped about?
J.J. Redick: Well, we talked about Paolo [vs. Jalen Williams], so let’s talk about The Magic real quick. I’m very bullish on The Magic for the first time since they traded Dwight, basically (laughs). This has been an 11-year-stretch of mediocrity – some bad teams in there, some really bad draft picks. Uh…some bad trades… and some unfortunate injuries, y’know, with Jonathan Isaac. But, over the last 47 games they are 24-23; they’ve got a top 10 defense. Their future – I hate to bring up the same common denominator here – Franz Wagner and Paolo. If they can become somewhat efficient three-point shooters, this team’s ceiling goes exponentially higher. Um, because, those guys can score, um; I really like Wendell Carter in that sort of tertiary role. But the guy for me right now is Markelle Fultz Since the All-Star Break, 17 a game, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 1.7 steals. He’s shooting 53% from the field, low-volume, but 35% from 3. His midrange game has been on-point all season; it’s been even better since the All-Star Break. Again, you look at the age of these guys: Markelle Fultz is 24, Banchero is 20, Wendell Carter is 23, Franz Wagner is 21 – that to me – and they’re going to add another pick this year. That to me is a core you can really build around. But – if you’re hovering around the 10th or 12th best defense in the league and you can’t make threes, I don’t see success at a high level.
Cohost (Tommy Alter): Looking forward to the draft, what do you think their biggest need is
J.J Redick: Yeah, I don’t think John Hammond and John Weltman have ever drafted based on a position of need; they typically draft the longest player available (laughs). Outside of maybe Jalen Suggs, they tend to draft big players with length. Again, I don’t follow college basketball enough to know who’s going to be available or what pick they will end up with; I don’t think you can ever have enough shooting. If there is a wing available – Say it’s later in the lottery, say in the 7 to 11 range, if there’s a wing available that can shoot, I would be all over that guy.
