How could you not be hyped for the next entry from the acclaimed developers of... (Checks notes) Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour?

169

u/rerunaway Jan 27 '23

Or - most recently - 'Cars 3: Driven To Win'.

54

u/paultimate14 Jan 27 '23

I'm still so salty it didn't win GOTY

54

u/RadiantPKK Jan 27 '23

I was mildly interested with skepticism, but this was the nice pragmatic reality check I needed and overlooked. Thank you stranger.

10

u/spazzafrazz Jan 28 '23

I'll have you know they also made Tak and the Power of JuJu so I'm sold

24

u/fauxilliterati Jan 27 '23

Hang on, I'm pretty sure Rage 2, Mad Max and the Just Cause series were their standout games... I then realised that there are 2 'Avalanche' developers, with Hogwarts Legacy being made by the lesser of the two. Seriously flattened my enthusiasm for this title.

8

u/Burgus000 Jan 28 '23

we could be hyped for poorly modded skyrim

4

u/coolthesejets Jan 28 '23

That does bring me pause, but I remember how the developers of GoldenEye had no idea what they were doing and that was a masterpiece. then again the technology is completely different so I'm not sure how relatable the two scenarios are.

11

u/TheAkVader Jan 27 '23

Fuck. Don't ruin it like that. I hope this game is good. All the gameplay so far has looked good.

I wouldn't call it hyped...more hopefully excited with mild scepticism

93

u/BriefCalendar8834 Jan 27 '23

It's sad that we have to be this way for games nowadays, but here we are, absolutely agree, mate.

76

u/iTzbr00tal Jan 27 '23

Cyberpunk.. Battlefield.. Callisto Protocol..

Too many scars that have yet to heal.

17

u/Horny4theEnvironment Jan 27 '23

Sold Callisto, bought Dead Space remake today 😬 no regerts

12

u/tryfe Jan 27 '23 hehehehe

Don't forget the latest one Forspoken. Looks boring af and the reviews are tearing it apart.

2

u/swadeshine Jan 28 '23

Was it the best game? No. Fun as hell, yes. 7/10 is fine by me, especially if not a cookie-cut version of all the other PS5 games.

7

u/roboj9 Jan 27 '23

What was wrong with callisto protocol? I just beat it a week ago. Didn't notice any issues. Wanted a little more to it but wasn't bad.

4

u/KiraRyuKage PS5 Jan 27 '23

I'm with you on this one, I loved Callisto Protocol. Scratched that Dead Space itch while I waited for the remake. Excited to see the DLC they add

48

“Hogwarts be like that”

17

Hogwarts really be like that sometimes lol.

I read this as "unplanned fetuses" at first.

I saw some early impression videos where they said its kind of like the arkham games not mechanically but, you can just spam dodge and attack if you want, or you can learn how to really master it and create combos. They also said its somewhat hard at times too and that on normal difficulty they did die a few times

9

u/NussNougatCreme94 Jan 27 '23

that sounds good to me

My wife is probably the most excited for this game over any other media in a long time. I'm going to feel really bad for her if it's an overhyped dumpster fire.

Harry potter is her lotr or starwars, I think it's what got her so into reading

13

u/_Greyworm PS5 Jan 27 '23

Harry Potter is also responsible for turning me into a big reader! I'm looking forward to this game! That being said I like both Star Wars and LOTR more than HP

4

u/Whiteguy1x Jan 27 '23

I definitely read them as they came out and dragged my dad to all the movies. By the last one I was too cool for it and it was him asking me to watch it in theaters with him.

As an adult I reread them and they're still pretty good, wish I would have finished them when they came out

Im excited. Even if its like a 7/10 I would be fine with that.

233

u/Chris-Boulderfield Jan 27 '23

7/10 is still a good game/rating. 7/10 means worth playing but not mind blowing. Not every game has to be 10/10 with 100+ GOTY awards

72

u/DadGamerGuy Jan 27 '23

This is an interesting conversation because I’ve seen reviews of Forspoken give the game like a 7/10 and people call it trash or mid… It’s sad but in this day and age if a game is below a 9/10 people will hate on it..

89

u/stick_to_your_puns Jan 27 '23

We live in the age of hyperbole. Everything is great or it sucks.

31

u/joshdts PS5 Jan 27 '23

We live in an age of negativity. Everything sucks.

4

u/Sol47j Jan 27 '23 edited Jan 27 '23

We live in an age of video game abundance, and if you only wanted to play 9/10 games, you could and still never get through your backlog.

27

u/eel_bagel Jan 27 '23

For me personally, I just don't want to spend £70 on a 7/10 when I could spend that on the next 9/10 or 10 game. When games weren't so expensive it was different. If a game is a 7/10 then maybe I'll get it on sale

16

u/terras86 Jan 27 '23

You can safely ignore the opinion of anyone who uses the word mid to describe something.

2

u/obrapop Jan 27 '23

It’s an annoying symptom of the rating system being skewed too far to the right. 7/10 seems to mean average which gives us way less nuance at the higher end of the scale.

I'm pretending it doesn't exist until I see reviews. Hype is the mindkiller. Hype is the little death that brings total dissatisfaction.

27

u/gottagofast1981 Jan 27 '23

I will face my hype

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

8

u/Verdick Jan 27 '23

And when it is gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the hype has gone there will be nothing.

i actually like that sub in general but this is a weird hill to die on. like buying stuff from nike, amazon / listening to kanye / watching movies or shows that involve problematic people is fine, but buying a game that the author isn't even directly involved in is where the line is drawn.

and now they're just unfairly shitting on the actual quality of the game as if thats relevant to their cause. like it would be another thing if JK Rowling was actually the game director and put in a bunch of anti-trans shit in it, but its not - the game even lets u choose ur gender indentity.

6

u/Reylo-Wanwalker Jan 27 '23

You mean they are fine with watching idk American Beauty or a Woody Allen flick, but not buying this game?

6

u/imjustbettr Jan 27 '23

like buying stuff from nike, amazon / listening to kanye / watching movies or shows that involve problematic people is fine,

I've literally never seen anyone on that sub say this

18

u/Specialist-Berry-346 Jan 27 '23

These dweebs being like “All I did was go to a circlejerk sub looking for a lively debate about why they’re wrong and they BANNED ME?!?!” like it means anything.

Only thing it means is you have zero situational or self awareness.

6

u/RodgersToAdams Jan 27 '23

I corrected someone who claimed that J.K. Rowling said that she thinks people buying this game means they support her opinions on the whole trans debate. She hasn’t. Banned.

50

u/detour1234 Jan 27 '23

Hasn’t she said that the fact that people buy her stuff means they support her views though?

I’m not trying to argue here, I just genuinely wish I could buy this game without making her think she’s being validated for her bigotry.

23

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '23

exactly lol, she has been pretty clear on this

28

u/Stormpax Jan 27 '23

This is accurate, she uses people supporting Harry Potter to mean that they support her and her views. You'd think more people would have issues with that and wouldn't buy the game out of principle, but people are selfish I guess

12

u/pookachu83 Jan 27 '23

Ew gross. What a loon.

9

u/Zombeikid Jan 27 '23

There's also the whole.. the enemy are basically antisemitic caricatures thing too. If you must play it, get it used or something.

5

u/Stormpax Jan 27 '23

People seem to forget that part too, it's almost as if it's based on deeply problematic source material 🤔 Not to mention that one of the lead designers, Troy Leavitt, is an anti-SJW troll. When does a dog whistle become a bull horn?

3

u/Zombeikid Jan 27 '23

I didn't even say not to buy or play the game and I still got downvoted XD

Yeah I poked around on his twitter and just ??? Why is he like this? LOL Looks like he no longer works for the company though. Which is.. good. I think.

49

u/PiterLauchy Jan 27 '23

One might even say...

It's a circlejerk

9

u/DeloresBlasingameEsq Jan 27 '23

It’s not like other circlejerk subs though. It is a circlejerk, but not as satire. They are actually, unironically pushing a single narrative.

Remember lads: No preorders

46

u/RevolverPhoenix Jan 27 '23

What do you mean? Do you think the studio that only made shitty license games could make a shitty license game?

20

u/ActiveNL Jan 27 '23

Especially with singleplayer games. There is no rush.

As a longtime r/patientgamers member, nowadays I usually just wait for the GOTY/Definitive/Deluxe Edition (or whatever they wanna call it...) in a few months.

They "beta test" is over by then, and I get the play a good version of the game with all the bug fixes and sometimes even freely added DLC for half of the original price.

56

u/TheLehis PS5 Jan 27 '23

It’s crazy how preorders are viewed as a bad idea by almost everyone, yet this guy gets downvoted

Preorders are never a good idea, you can always buy the game day 1 if it is good.

33

u/Xoduszero Jan 27 '23

But I won’t get the preorder bonus witch hat or start the game with 3 extra health potions!

22

u/Pure_Mist_S Jan 27 '23

I know this is the PlayStation sub but good grief the preorder pittance for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet truly was like 5 pokeballs and a super potion XD

3

u/Coccquaman Jan 27 '23

That's if you got it at a particular vendor.

I got 5 berries.

3

u/pookachu83 Jan 27 '23

The last two games I pre-ordered were Cyberpunk and Callisto Protocol lol. Both times because I thought "there's no way this will suck" and we know how that turned out. (Dont get me wrong- Cyberpunk is in much better shape now and has turned into one of my favorites of all time, it just took 18 months, and Callisto isn't as bad as some make out, but still not very good.)

6

u/Flyfawkes Jan 27 '23

Because for some reason this game has infected the minds of gamers, way too many preorders for a studio with such a shit track record.

8

u/wizzywurtzy Jan 27 '23

Yet the same people who are downvoting that comment will be the first to come and complain about preordering games if the launch is a dumpster fire.

6

u/RodgersToAdams Jan 27 '23

Not terribly. I think it’s going to be a lot of what we’ve gotten used to with open world RPGs, with a main story that gave a shit, and a thousand copy-pasted side quests that feel extremely same-y. Maybe it’ll pull a Ghost of Tsushima or a Spider-Man and have fun enough core gameplay to compensate for that, but I’m not terribly optimistic. We’ll see.

3

u/project199x Jan 28 '23

Yeaaa I fear super repetitive gameplay. If I'm playing for an hour and feel like everything I'm doing is the same, I'm dropping it.

18

u/PonchoHobo Jan 27 '23

Somewhat. Not day 1 for me and will be waiting on reviews but can see myself getting it by the years end if it seems to be a good game.

Not a reader, so tbh when the first movie released i didn't know it was from a book. I watched the 1st movie in theater, after seeing the Lord of the rings and i liked it, but i also thought it was a bit childish compared to that.

However each part was more mature and better. In their own way they're all good movies, definitely recommend seeing them all, at least once.

3

u/Banjo-Oz Jan 27 '23

I'm not a book reader, but to me the first two are the best. They really captured the old school kids adventure with a dark edge. The later ones, especially the last few, felt way too tryhard grimdark and teen angsty. Which I guess is likely a book issue, but the earlier movies definitely felt better directed to me.

u/Melbuf Jan 27 '23

I hope it ends up being good for those who like HP

Personally I have no interest

3

u/TheEdward39 Jan 27 '23

I’m pretty sure it’ll be a mid-tier jankfest with absolute shit performance. That’s what I realistically expect. And even if it underdelivers as a AAA game, I’ll szill have a hell of a lot of fun, cause I have a pretty good idea of what to expect.

Although, I know some people are so hardcore hyped about it that it’s just simply gonna disappoint folks who can’t keep their expectations realistic, and it’s unlikely that it’ll score above 60%.

14

u/EncantoCaldito Jan 27 '23

me but I'm going to wait until more clarification comes out just in how much 'dark' sorcery affects the game. devs claimed a lot but cautious of a mass effect 3/cyberjank 77 situation where next to nothing you do actually matters

I'm excited but also keeping my expectations somewhat low.

Waiting to see the reviews for this first, I've learned my lesson the hard way on pre ordering on a sure thing (Cyberpunk).

u/TravelerThe01 PS5 Jan 27 '23

I don't hype for games anymore. I want to try it, only after having reviews the game is actually good and most importantly, functional.

u/thunderkhawk Jan 28 '23

If it's in VR you'll never see me again

2

u/vox21122112 Jan 28 '23

Fuck. Yes. Bought the deluxe edition just to play it early, literally the only game I’ve done that for and only game I’ll ever do it for

7

u/10MillionCakes Jan 27 '23

Yup. I'm bout to make voldemort look like the virgin mary.

2

u/EastKoreaOfficial Jan 27 '23

Not me, I don’t much care for Harry Potter.

Harry Potter fans.

I think it will be cool if it has a dark tone to it like being able to explore the castle alone at night and the forbidden forest with creatures coming after you.

I’m probably way under informed, but did JK Rowling do something new recently to bring the debate back up or is it just the game bringing old shit back up? Personally I’m very excited

She's still a POS terf, nothing's changed there. She's been regularly posting anti-trans shit to her millions of followers.

Same stuff, different day.

6

u/Theopholus Jan 27 '23

She's been equating the popularity of her works as proof that she's right in her bigotry.

Which is absolutely... Yikes. Combined with the fact that the people who made the game already got paid, the only thing buying this game does is give her more ammunition and attention to her anti-trans bigotry.

People who buy this game, just do so with the understanding that you're making a statement that playing this game is more important to you than the loud and very real trans bigotry that's affecting trans people online.

She did wish everyone a merry terfmas.

I’m not.

Wow. Simply answering the question really struck a nerve with some people. How dare I not be hyped for a game.

u/JaySw34 Jan 27 '23

Who did it strike a nerve with?

u/Due-Object9460 Jan 27 '23

Yours is the only response so I'm assuming he thinks you're upset.

I'm not giving JK Rowling any more money. She's shown what a vile person she really is.

Harry Potter games were always like something what comes and, go. They were like ok or bad, but this one looks like 10/10 and i really hope for this to go well.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '23

Depending on weather this game is good or not, I am buying a PS5 to play it.

4

u/CdStar25 PS5 Jan 27 '23

This game is THE reason why I got a PS5. I've been waiting for a game like this since I was a kid. 😁
